What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
A few ideas that I'm not sure some are possible:
- For the rear camera, the ability to rotate x degrees with on screen buttons
- Integrated quick jack system
- Underbody camera
- Retractable dog ramp
- Water filtration system in trunk
- Make the infotainment screen modular, so it can easily be replaced/upgraded with future tech
- Memory seats
- Ability to adjust seating for a low slung position I think Jaguar and Audi do a great job of this in their SUVs

As someone with an id.4 i would like to see the Travel Assit feature make it over from VW. Its nice on my single file line no passing commute to just set it and let the car do most of the work. Not a deal breaker though.

In terms of physical UX... please have the key fob be as small as possible. Car keys are way too big now.

I seem to be in the minority here, but the autonomous features are a must for me. I understand that Scout is an offroad vehicle, but I made my deposit hoping the Terra Harvester can be my interstate warrior (I do about 50K a year on the interstate hauling more than I can fit in a SUV). I currently have an F150 Lariat with BlueCruise, and the only thing that could make it better is if it was a Range Extended EV instead of a psuedo-Hybrid. By 2027 the F150 will be over 250K miles and it will be time for something new. I guess if the autonomy features from Rivian don't make it over to Scout then I'll have to reconsider the Dodge (yuck) RamCharger

Edit: Why do I want a ER EV if I drive that much on the interstate? I take really long trips about every 8-12 weeks. With an ER EV I could go electric only for 8-12 weeks at a time, then utilize the range extender for the road trip.

Honestly, I don’t need a lot of tech. In a normal vehicle, power locks are nice and power windows are pushing it. One thing I would like is the space and connections ( Anderson Powerpoles ) to mount a ham radio, and the ability to route a mag mounted antenna cable.

One of the reasons I bought my 79 scout 2 was to 4wheel up to places some of our other hams couldn’t get to for race support for cross country / endurance type runs.
Yeah keep it simple at least for the base trim. No weird stuff like lane departure or self driving. On higher trims levels you can add the fancy tech stuff, but keep the base model simple.

I think I requested this a couple of years ago, but I'd still like a manual gearbox option, please 😉

They say it will support bidirectional charging but hopefully that's not just throwing out buzzwords and it will actually support 10kW discharge between a good range of SOC levels. Hoping that 350mi range for BEV is with those K03's on but I'm betting not and they will be an option.

I'd rather have some basics done extremely well than a million options at launch done poorly.

As an owner of two Teslas, I appreciate the very well thought out app I can use on my phone to handle so many functions of the vehicle remotely. If you aren't a Tesla owner, you probably wouldn't appreciate what a game changer it is. Setting temperature control before I enter the vehicle, starting/stopping/pausing/monitoring charging, locking/unlocking the vehicle, and watching the security camera footage are just a few of the things I do on a regular basis. Software design has been a collosal failure at VW, hopefully Scout will do better.
While I have grown to appreciate several such controls with my Toyotas, I'm reluctant to ask for too many of what could be considered "frills" on a vehicle which is trying to hold down the price and come forward as much a "service" as a "sport" UV.

One on my Tundra is only half there = all windows up/down. You can open all the windows on a hot summer day so you don't have to enter an oven when you get to the truck, BUT they forgot about when you look out of your bedroom's window as it starts to rain and see that the truck's windows are all open. Pretty much every app based remote action that I can imagine would need a paired 'reverse' action.

The issue is most of those electronic features add to the list to get the higher safety ratings so whether we like them or not we are almost certain to get them anyway
Alas, we seem to be headed to being so protected by the "motherland" that we soon will be denied the joy of the open road -- or forest road, or desert canyon, or . . .

If they have rain sensing wipers why not a stationary connection when rain is sensed and car is parked the sensors trigger the windows to close. Assuming sentry mode is active while parked a rain sensor could double duty.

Another call for the rebirth of JC Whitney. Although some sound interesting, all I can ask SM to include is space to run wires, simple panel designs that are easy to mount to. In short, keep it simple enough that we can work on adding stuff.

And let us hope that trim levels will be irrelevant in SM, and that ordering (accessorizing) to our needs is primary.

The new Broncos come programmed like this as well, but via Forscan many of us have "hacked" them to also roll up remotely. I believe it's due to liability reasons that the option is there but not necessarily enabled for certain markets. No idea if this is possible with Toyotas.
