How much personalization/modification ability do you want to see in the new Scout?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
It needs to have a standard bolt pattern on it for wheels. Factory wheels are usually the first thing to go and it stinks when the OEM decides to use some weird bolt pattern that no one makes anything for. The standard 6x139.7 would be optimal and provide an almost unlimited amount of options for customers...

Next thing is BRIGHT COLOURS! We need some actual colours available other then dark greys, blues, or white and black. I love the colour the traveler was in at the reveal. Give us more of that! lol.

SM seems to be on the right track for accessories and I hope they continue to listen to the people that will be buying their product!

For the Traveler, you need to gain the city crowd. That is those who will never/rarely go off-roading. That would entail having a trim with road / all season tires, and a rear wheel drive trim that maximizes the EV range. And a third row for the Traveler! The car is bigger than R1S definitely can fit a third row in there! This is a must for mall crawlers!
No third row in this model. Leaving room for a larger model. I agree but at the size of the traveller I think the thought is suburban buyers. Parking in cities is tight. Sure it will fit but having seen it in person I’d have to think about buying one if I lived in a larger city. Thats just me though

It is 6 bolt. But not sure on the spread.

I know it makes sense from a production standpoint because it can reduce production cost and increase output, but bundling options into only a few packages actually really annoys me because I'm always forced to buy something I don't want, never use, and I know I'm paying for it.

I would recommend at least allowing a full custom order - any combination of available options and available colors - while maybe also building some "quick delivery" pre-packaged option tiers for those who must have theirs now-now-now.

Where there may be options that can't be combined due to mechanical or other reasons, make sure that in the ordering process that the reason a specific selection can't be chosen is explained.
Toyota has a "build your own" process on their website which does exactly as you suggest. Unfortunately they still make features only available in "packages", and of course there is no system in place to allow you to actually order what you've designed. I think Scott has said SM will not operate that way, at least if you listen between the words.

It would be cool to have AI modify it for me by just answering questions. I.E. Do you take pets in your vehicle? "yes", Do you tailgate? "yes" and then it takes all the answers and customizes your ultimate vehicle.

Is a great option. Hopefully Jamie will address. I recall a discussion in the past year about that and it was very up in the air. Perhaps since then they’ve given more thought

Land Rover began offering this for the Defender a couple years ago. Pricing it out as a factory option vs going to a local detail shop, it seems like it would save a couple thousand dollars.

Here's another idea. Factory installed self-healing wrap to guard against veggie pinstripes.
We toyed with this for our Border to Border Expedition Land Rovers. It would be great to potentially integrate such into the (replaceable) rallye graphics, with clear or paint-match options that extend protection down the length of the panels. With a truck this wide, you're guaranteed to pick up some brambles pinstripes!

Ok Scouts,

Our interface designers and engineers are looking for some more feedback from all of you and this time it is on:

How much personalization/modification ability do you want to see in the new Scout?

This can be anything from colors and trim, to aftermarket modifications, interchangeable parts of the car, and more.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

- Jamie
For the interface and UI options, here are some options: have an option to change the color of the on-screen vehicle; Light/Dark backgrounds; UI that matches drive modes; have the OS interact with the driver by name when they enter/exit the vehicle; integrate the mobile App with the vehicle App so content and features can be shared; license Apple/Android auto; create scenes for nighttime camping; and maybe allow other Scouts to be tracked on a map/share locations.

For the engineers, here are some: plan for a deep aftermarket of accessories. Look at Jeep and Bronco communities, but have special/unique Scount items); plan for roof and bed rail systems for the campers and overlanders; pre-wire for off-road lighting with Scout switches; power step rails; integrated bed steps; air compressor.

I’d be really happy if all trim levels had a wide range of colors, and we aren’t forced into certain exterior/interior color pairings like most other car manufacturers do. When I build a car on others websites, it seems like I can never pair my favorite interior color with my favorite exterior color.

I take my off-road vehicles and USE them. I don't bash them, but I do use them for their intended purposes. A Scout's intended purpose is to be off-road and I will use it as such. I would love to see the ability to customize these easily. One of the main reasons why I didn't go Rivian, the ability to customize them and mod them was difficult at best and impossible at worst. Give me the ability to add different bumpers, sliders, lights. If you want to market this as an off-road vehicle (as it should be) and want the aftermarket to adopt it (which will help bolster sales) make them easy to mod!

Bed covers for the Terra, side steps a rear bed step. Cool screen savers like the Rivan can do and screen lay-out options. Ambient lighting options. I do like dog mode, bench seat with fold down middle with a wireless phone charger, and both sides can adjust independently.

I'd love to have flexibility with interior materials and options. Of course I expect a slew of aftermarket options that can be bolted on but I think my fear is that it goes the Toyota route when I am forced to into settling for one thing to get another, such as losing the leather/fabric two material seating, or the door/dash fabric if I want...let's say a cabana top, or something along those lines. I do hope we get more adventurous color options and not black/grey/white and then a blue/red.. basically the only colors you can get a 4Runner in (except for Pro models).
