  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Thanks for the welcome, J Alynn. The forums are unexpectedly overwhelming!
I imagine so.
The early design threads have TONS of thoughts and is a good read. The search /magnifying glass is your friend. If you try that first on a topic you’re thinking of you can likely read up on things, maybe get an answer or have a good starting point to pose new thoughts and questions. A handful of us were also invited to the reveal so we have a little more insight on things but the majority of folks on here want to learn and offer positive feedback-along with some snark and sarcasm on occasion but all-in-all it’s a great place to check in on. Some of us are chained to it but there’s a lot of great Scout enthusiasts and we are all excited to go along for the ride

Didn't see the choice for a bench seat when I reserved.
Want a cabana top but didn't see that choice when I reserved either.

Both options you mentioned were just after the ejector seat (passenger only for first year) and the built in George Foreman family sized grill in the frunk 😀

Seriously though-welcome to the forum! Dig around and check out all the info two years has produced. The search button/magnifying glass will be your friend and you’ll probably find answers or fellow members with similar questions.
Enjoy your time here!!!

I'm guessing that Scout might follow a direct sales model that looks something likes this:

1. $100 refundable deposit reserves a spot in line
2. Scout will eventually launch a product configurator
3. Reservation holders will have a window to "lock-in" a configuration within XX number of days
4. Pricing will be rendered based on options / configuration
5. Once config and price is locked, Scout will provide a production estimate and steps required to purchase.

What may happen (pure speculation) is that certain configurations might be available first, or you might be able to get a Harvester or Pure EV version sooner. Those in line with early reservations may be given a choice to change their model or configuration based on production timelines (but again, pure speculation!).

Not looking forward to price, realistically it's going to be $80k unless they are going to take a huge loss or battery costs really really come down.
Cost is a big part of what made me reserve the EV and not the Harvester drivetrain.
In the last 14-18 months, battery prices for CATL company batteries are down almost 50% to $53 per KWh. IF that trend continues, and there is a glut in the Lithium market (only 2.5 years ago Toyota claimed there would only be enough lithium in the WORLD for every car to have a 1 KWh battery), that I hope battery prices go down another 50% while capacity and thereby energy density doubles. Could change a lot for SM.

Toyota lost any competitive advantage that it had gained with the Prius & hybrids due to Toyota's ambivalence to EV's and their allegiance to the Oil and Gas Lobby in Japan. Toyota's board and ownership have pumped millions into stall & delay tactics when it comes to climate action and remain amongst the world's worst polluters, so comments like these from Toyota are not surprising.

I went with my dad to the International dealer in Jackson, MS in 1976 to purchase our red, white and blue bicentennial edition Scout II.

We had the Scout from 1976 to 1998 when it finally succumbed to rust.

Looking at the new Scout makes me long for those days. Squirreling my money away now!

I grew up in South Alabama and I remember a Bicentennial Scout cruising Gulf Shores in the late 70's. I think that it was parked at the Flora Bama.....

No wrong color...LOL!

They can feel that way, but people here are pretty nice. Discussions can get a little heated or grow to be 18 million pages long, but nobody is a jerk: if anyone is guilty of anything, it’s enthusiasm. It’s actually kind of nice that everyone’s here more or less because they have a fond memory of Scouts or saw a Scout and were like WHOA WHAT’S THAT and bought one for $500 25 years ago to fix up or whatever the individual story might be (it was our beloved family car when I was little and I don’t think anything we had after that ever quite measured up to it for my father, who was pretty excited that they were coming back as EVs before he passed last year). Everyone has a story that they can tell that makes them smile while they retell it. It’s a good starting point for a community. 🥰 People are obviously all different: grew up different, live differently, went to different schools in different parts of the country/world, have families from all over, have different philosophies, different incomes, different ideas about what the new Scouts should be, but we have a Scout experience in common and it’s pleasant.

I think Scout's estimates for price and range consider battery/tech improvements and cost reductions.

Scout CEO Scott Keogh said a year ago in an interview, "The SUV will be launched first, likely in 2026, with the pickup to follow six to seven months later." I've heard nothing to contradict or confirm that since so there's a chance not all models and trims will be available at launch. That's okay with me if it helps ensure quality.

There has been some other cross references from Jamie saying they will probably be closer together than what was published but forget when and where it was discussed 😀

I would challenge that and assume their current pricing includes current costs and any further cost reductions will either help combat cost increases or will allow them a larger profit margin. Setting prices today based on where they think it might be in 2 to 2-1/2 years is a risky way to price product and make a successful product as a business-but just my thinking being married to a woman in corporate banking.

My assumptions are based on technology that's available for purchase today and what will be available in two years. I'm aware of no vehicle for sale today that meets any of Scout's estimated figures (0-60, range, price). EV technology is advancing in Leaps and Bounds. An ICE vehicle for sale 3 years from now will not be demonstrably better than a car for sale today, but an EV will be. We shall see. A lot can happen in two plus years. I have faith in Scout's engineers and design team, and I know they're doing their best to deliver amazing and unique vehicles.

I would agree that range estimates are probably based on their timing and what their engineering team has determined based on what they know they have access too. There’s also consideration that the battery tech the VW is finalizing will be packaged in a manner that gains them the extra little bit of range. It may also be that they are just planning a single, larger battery bank rather that many of the others that provide a base pack then two tiers of upgrades.?

It's fun to speculate. We've got a couple of years to debate things! Whatever will we talk about when the full Harvester details are released? 😉

I have been a Tahoe guy for a long time and this is the first electric SUV that looks like it could be an actual replacement! Very Excited. 3" shorter than a Tahoe but same height and I am guessing same width with the mirrors out. (91.6" looks very wide considering a Hummer H1 is 85.6" wide)
