  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Reserved a Terra after the announcement. Also considering R1T. Didn't know about this place until the Out of Spec Reviews video yesterday.
Did the same but reserved the Traveler and also looking at the R1S. Interested in the new Macan EV also. Had a R2 reservation but canceled that and switched it to the Scout figuring if I went with Rivian I would go for the R1S over the R2.

I grew up in the 80's. As long as I can remember I had a great desire to own either a Scout II or a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I was near getting a Jeep Grand Wagoneer in high school but never close to getting a Scout. When the Jeep Grand Wagoneer was reintroduced I was very disappointed that it did not maintain any of its legacy attributes. When I saw the introduction of scout motors two new vehicles, the Traveler and the Terra, it immediately spoke to me on an emotional level. So many throwbacks to their forbears. I can't wait for the opportunity to go to South Carolina and see my order come off the line. All of you at Scout Motors are lucky to be a part of something so great. If a qualified position were to open I will be the first to apply.

Welcome to the forum. As I try to say to everyone-use the search button to find the topics that interest you or to answer the questions you might have. Odds are over the past two years it’s been discussed. If it hasn’t then jump in and post your thoughts and/or ideas. This has been a great stage to debate, learn and hear great ideas. The team at SM checks this forum regularly and love reading the thoughts of the masses. It’s generally a great crowd though we all have our hot topics and bad days but we are all human 🤣
Anyway-welcome aboard-sounds like we have similar memories of the Scouts!

I'm going with the Traveler-Harvester. I'm just learning about the new Scout brand, and this is a community I want to be a part of. Our household has a Chevy Bolt EV we love and level 2 charging in both Rochester Hills and Petoskey. The ICE car we need for the long drives in the winter is a Subaru Outback. The Traveler is going to replace the Outback! I have worked in automotive marketing for most of my career, and I can tell (don't ask me how) that this brand and product lineup will be a winner. Combining an iconic legacy and an innovative approach to empowering us with true capability and timeless style will tick all the boxes. The enthusiasm is real! Let''s go!

Check this out:
Quantum scape battery might be used for scout since it has high density in smaller footprint, this would also allow smaller 3 or 4 cylinder engine to fast charge solid state batteries.

Jamie has already noted that the launch vehicle is Highly unlikely to use solid state but as the tech becomes proven in mass testing it could be a valid option. It’s all moving forward but not successfully enough to go in the first round/first gen of the new Scouts

FYI. This would be a great post for the Extra, extra thread since this thread is focused on what members have reserved and not really about battery options. Appreciate you sharing it.

I originally reserved Terra harvester. After reading community input, the tradeoffs of cost, space, and EV range made me realize my expectations were not reasonable. It is not a 350 mile EV with an extra generator but a revised/reduced EV with a generator.

If you plan on towing or off-landing/ camping a lot the harvester is absolutely worth having. I will not be using mine for any of that so it is just extra maint and cost for me so I went with the regular BEV option. Will also be interesting to see how much extra they charge for the Harvester option and how many change their reservation after seeing the additional cost.

Currently I think the prevailing theory is that the harvester might actually be the cheaper option.

The difference in battery size is pretty significant (in the vicinity of ~100kwh, or roughly the size of the entire Kia EV9 battery pack), and with batteries being one of the biggest cost drivers, most have theorized the harvester will be cheaper (as a gas engine and gas tank are pretty cheap in comparison).

Who knows at this point. I'm a fence sitter atm. Currently reserved a Harvester, but depending on implementation and cost, I might go with either.

I didn't know the harvester model was getting a smaller battery. Kind of makes sense because you are going to want to run that gas engine somewhat regularly also. If that is the case and the battery is 100kw smaller that is a huge difference in battery cost. Think the battery in the model 3 is 80kw and around $20kish (did a quick search don't hold me to this exact number) to replace. Engine is much cheaper then that for sure. Would probably buy a R2 if the purse EV cost that much extra... Looking at $80k to start at that point. Of course all speculation also so going to have to wait and see what prices end up being...

Just want to say this is a great forum to get up to speed.

What about weight of the full EV vs harvester model?

What about weight of the full EV vs harvester model?

So, the info is all buried around here. And of course its all guesswork (but we try to be educated about it :D).

But basically, if we assume that the Scouts will get ~2miles per KWh of battery in terms of efficiency (between the Rivian R1, and Hummer in efficiency, which I think makes sense based on size/looks/tires, and makes math easy).

If we know that the harvester model gets ~150 miles of EV range, then that means the harvester battery is ~75kwh in size. And by the same token, if the largest battery version gets 350 miles of range, then that means ~175kwh of battery.

A Kia EV9's battery is 99.8KWh, and its apparently ~1200-1300lbs. I did the math one time on what we thought the gas generator engine would be, what it weighed, and how much ~10-15gal of gas weighed, and IIRC it was in the ballpark of ~400-700lbs. If you dig around in my post history you might find it.

So, purely guessing, I'd assume the Harvester would be at least 500lbs lighter than the BEV version.

Its possible that the pure BEV version could use a different battery chemistry (that gets more KWh of capacity, for the same weight), which would change the dynamic some. But I'd still bet the harvester will be lighter.

We get to learn about it eventually :).
