What Metro's Will Scout Launch?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I guess a lot depends on just how far between significant markets that they are willing to go. 3hrs is a long way (but I seem to recall something like that mentioned. If they decide to stretch it to 3hrs in Texas (I think I read that Texas is only second to California in reservation numbers), there is a ton of central Texas that could pull it off - but honestly I think Austin is better than College station in every way except property values. That said, Texas is a large place...

I own a VW at the moment. Service is a nightmare for me. Not a huge problem when I lived in Austin, but now it is 2 half days of driving for 2 people. 3hrs to a service center makes it 2 full days.

I’m sure in time states like TX and CA will get more and much sooner than many other states but if they truly want to get national coverage and also hit top market locations they will need to be strategic and also limit initial locations.
As I had mentioned I’m roughly 1-1/2 hours west of Philly and for all intensive purposes-NY, NJ, Philly and Baltimore/DC are nearly one large megropolis and Rivian is covering that population/EV desirable area with a store in NY and guessing next one is mid/southern Virginia didn’t didn’t check that closely. By area that whole listed area is similar to a good portion of TX but the population is considerably larger. I guess it comes down to whether SM wants population centers, strong EV sales locations OR just national coverage.
Ultimately service is the bigger issue as we’ve all discussed. And it’s not to say Rivian ultimately picked the correct locations. I couldn’t tell you where the closest Tesla store is other than NE Philly area but I know Lancaster County has a Tesla service center because we have a TON of those driving around

The largest population areas in Texas are easy. Corpus and El Paso are the outliers. El Paso will probably get service out of New Mexico - as they really think they are more part of New Mexico than Texas. Corpus - well Corpus is probably going to be left out (maybe San Antonio is within 3 hrs - barely). That said, Corpus is probably not a major EV market.

On a flip side, I honestly have rarely found a higher percentage of EV's in Texas than S. Padre. But those are not local, just Musk fans or employees (I guess the employees are technically local for a while).

Cleveland will top the list !

🤣

Although we do have a Rivian Service Center and a Tesla ‘Dealership’ / Service Center in Cleveland suburbs.

NADA Lobbyists and Car Dealers with Legislators have hamstrung Rivian throughout the State. Can’t sit in or ‘test drive’ a Rivian anywhere in the State. Tesla Grandfathered to be able to do all the things a dealership does. Not Rivian.

We also have a HUGE MetroPark system called…..wait for it……..:

THE EMERALD NECKLACE
(Sounds like an Homage to the Wizard of Oz or an STD with ‘Act’).

It was created during the Great Depression by the CCC in the 1930’s.

Miles and miles of bike/hike trails and tree lined (really forest lined) roads for cars and bikes and Hikes. State Wide Buckey Trail runs through it, as does the ‘Toe Path Trail’ of former canals for moving goods like cotton from south to north to port in Cleveland.

Also have a ‘Bike Train’ you can ride your bike 30 miles south on the trails, spend the day picnicking or at one of the ice cream shops or restaurants and ride the bike train back with, of course, your bike back 30 miles. It’s great!

Rivian should have put one of their ‘Charging Outposts’ near the MetroParks just off the Highway. Their ‘Service center’ is in an Industrial Park that’s unpleasant, but it’s for Service. There are many choices merging forest and highway, Including just off the Turnpike.

Scout Motors should do the same!

I wonder if Scout will win the battle of being able to test drive and show off the Terra and Traveler with Harvester with real customer added value experience or if SM will be hamstrung like Rivian.

You can take delivery at the Rivian Service Center, you just can’t sit in one or test drive one. Not a showroom. Not allowed by Ohio Law. Ridiculous.

Cheers!

Northeast Ohio is likely not a priority for a Scout facility. I would guess not before year 3. But Hope springs eternal, just like our expectations for the Browns every year!

Yeah, I’ll be 6 feet under before the Browns win a Super Bowl!

I’m from Brook Park and my brother owns our childhood home just 2 miles or less from the new Browns Stadium proposed site (Former Ford PLANTS, NOW DOWN TO ONE FORD PLANT LEFT).

Hey, the Brook Park Stadium / retail Center and Hotels will be up and running when Scout Motors comes out!

Maybe Scout can use my Childhood home for a solar/battery EV to Home / vehicle to grid / vehicle to Load showcase!

“Showroom” at the Stadium and showcase house (remodeled with Scout Motor Money, of course) only 2 miles away.

Berea Metro Park entrance isn’t too far away and the Airport is less than a mile from the proposed stadium!

All a jackpot for SM ‘Charging Outposts’!

I can Dream!

Cheers!

Also, I think Rivian and SM should create ‘experience ‘ or ‘ Adventure’ Centers near the highway and Turnpike that sell ‘a coffee’ or other non alcoholic beverage (we have good non alcoholic beers and wine available) that comes with a one to 3 hour ‘rental’ of a Rivian or SM Terra or Traveler.

Can’t buy them or negotiate. It’s not a ‘dealership’ since that’s not allowed in Ohio by Law for Rivian or SM, likely (since VW is going to fight SM to force sales through VW dealerships, we’ll see).

I’m available, SM for consultation on any of these ideas!

Hello……SM………anyone listening……..? 😬🤣

Another way to look at correlation for "potential locations" would be by EV sales, SUV/Truck sales and the existing density of DCFC and other charging infrastructure that exists today. Some of this infrastructure is representative of the tail wagging the dog, or the requirement for infrastructure to follow strong EV sales.

Looking more specifically just at EV Truck sales (for example), Scout could follow the money and charger infrastructure, which will at least ensure they target top markets that are more saturated with (theoretically) some of the most likely buyers to help ensure positive lift-off. Initial sales numbers will boost confidence and propel more sales, so I'm guessing Scout's strategy team is working hard to determine priority and the best places to stake their claim to get the flywheel spinning quickly.

To piggy-back off existing data (as 1 data point for EV Truck density) you can look at where Rivian RAN chargers now exist in the wild... Where ever you see 3 lightening bolts on the map below, you now have a Rivian DCFC RAN Charger.

Here in wee-little New England, for example, we now have SIX Rivian DCFC stations that funnel into I-95 corridor, heading down the East Coast. The length of the West Coast is covered, connecting the most densely populated cities, then running into Southwest, followed by some pockets like CO, TX, and the Great Lakes region:

And as a southern Alabama resident I will be lucky if there is a service center in the same hemisphere...lol

Unfortunately and like Rivian, my nearest service center will likely be in Atlanta....

It may work because there are several Rivian vehickes in my area....

I lived in Dothan AL for four years while on Active Duty as a Doc at Fort Rucker. I had to go to Montgomery or Tallahassee for warranty Service at the nearest Acura Dealership for my TL A-Spec 6MT. Loved that car.

I feel your pain on travel distances. I used to ‘moonlight’ in Ozark at Dale Medical Center. I’ll bet it’s grown some since 2006 when I transferred to Columbia, SC at Fort Jackson and owned a home in. ………BLYTHEWOOD SC. just across the highway from the new SM Factory. Of course, I sold that in 2011, Retired from the US Army after 22 years and moved as per the orders of the General, uh, I mean my Wife, back to Cleveland where we met, were born and all the family are located.

Cheers to AL. Roll Tide 🐘 or War Eagle!🦅

Didn’t want to start a new thread for this but I saw on Facebook there was a response post to Scott Keogh’s end of year video. Jamie responded saying there will be home delivery available.
That’s the first I heard that but must be on the table since Jamie posted that on Facebook
That would be great!

My address in NE Ohio near Cleveland is …………..
