Welcome and Introductions!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Hi all,

My love for these rugged vehicles started young – my dad bought a new 1971 red Scout 800 with a white hardtop when I was 2 years old before trading up to a harvest green 1974 Scout II with a 304 V8 a couple of years later. This vehicle was the family around town car for almost my entire childhood. That Scout II then became my first car, a gift from my dad when I turned 15. I repaired the rusty body (if you know, you know), rebuilt the engine (started with a head gasket replacement, then lead to new rings, lifters, camshaft bearings, etc), replaced the clutch, and painted the body black (I cringe at this now). I drove it with all the care of a teenager around our farm and on every unforgiving dirt road in rural southern central Missouri I could get to, and it never let me down. I kept it with me through my early college years, but like many I had to part with my Scout eventually, and I’ve missed it ever since.

Fast forward to today, I reserved a Scout Traveller with the Harvester range extender as soon as I finished the YouTube reveal video, and I’m thrilled about the electric power and modern amenities paired with the classic Scout styling and off-road capability revealed at the press event. For me, like many of you, this is more than a vehicle – it’s a chance to reconnect with a huge part of my past. As well participate in the development of what looks like a great vehicle that checks many boxes for me.

I’m excited to hear about everyone else's Scout memories and looking forward to sharing inputs on the development of this resurrection of an iconic brand.

Happy to be part of the community!

Edit: Corrected to Scout 800 from "Scout I" (what I always called it, but incorrectly)

Jeff here and excited to see Scout finally back and being built about an hour south of me. Growing up my dad had a Scout international and always loved going for a ride in it. Eventually it had to go due to rusting floor board but always was a fan. I guess you can say ordering one has some sentimental value

Hello! I hail from the beautiful land of sun, red rocks and desert trails (southern Utah). My backyard is an off-roader's playground with places like Moab, Sand Hollow, Sedona and numerous other trails close by. We have owned Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, a Tesla, Mazdas, more Jeeps, more Toyotas and currently have a Ford Bronco Raptor and Jeep Gladiator Launch Edition in our stables. We use them for towing our small camper trailer and trails and road trips. We're always out and about exploring our great state and surrounding states and scouting the trails ahead for adventures.

Before I bought my Bronco Raptor I was on the fence about getting a Rivian because I absolutely love Rivians and have always wanted one. However with our off-road adventures and our love for seeing where a road/trail takes us the concern about where to charge and keep charged while off-road and deep in the back country ultimately led me to back to a gas engine. So seeing/hearing on reveal that Scout is doing a EV+Gas option I am IN!

Hi, I just joined up after learning snout the new model introduction after about 50 years between now and the last new model year.

I currently drive a 2016 VDub Touareg TDi as a dealer “Fixed” diesel in 2018 after VW bought back my Passat TDi. Living in Minnesota, having 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles is a must. So I have warm nostalgia pulling me toward buying a Scout.

I’m interested learning about the additional of the generator option. It would seem to be a hugely popular option. The longer driving range seems like one of the major negatives against EVs.

I’m curious if the generator will automatically turn on when the primary EV battery hits a defined percentage of power utilized. An example, it turn on if the main power cord in use charging the battery with the battery at 70% expended.

It’s not just going 500 miles, rather, it is about going 500 miles without needing to stop and wait for the battery to charge. I hope they get this right. If not, I’d rather have a diesel hybrid EV. That way you could use the diesel to drive the Scout while cruising and charging the battery.

See you around.

Hi, my name is Alex, and I live in Jupiter, FL. There’s a pretty decent off road community where I live, so a Scout should fit in well.

As my name implies, I love Italian cars. Ferrari, obviously, but I also love Lamborghinis, Paganis and Maserati.

I also have a Flickr account, I love taking photos with my iPhone.

I hope to get a BEV Traveler, but I might change my mind to a BEV Terra depending on what that offers.

So, yeah, that’s me. 😎

Howdy everyone! Glad I found the forum 😊 personally reserved the Traveller w/ the harvester option. Always wanted to be part of the Scout crew since I was a kid and saw a Scout II in person. For now I have a few other toys. Got my 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible, and a 1984 K5 Blazer (military diesel). Daily a 2017 Ram 1500 which will hopefully be replaced by the traveler!

Hi all! I love anything and everything to do with the beautiful outdoors, love hiking and mountain biking, love anything and everything with wheels and tires, and seek out off road adventures and memories with my family at every opportunity.

I grew up in several vehicles including a C10 and an awesome 1979 K5. I’ve always loved the IH Scouts. I am most definitely an enthusiast and the plans Scout Motors has presented thus far have piqued my interest. I’m all about the off road space their design seems to be targeting (four wheel drive, live axle, body on frame, lockers front and rear, winch from factory, what appears to be an aftermarket-friendly design, separate bumpers, possibly separate bolt-on rocker protection allowing the possibility of bolt-on rock sliders for more serious off road action, open-air options, etc. etc. The designs are amazing and the Harvester option sealed the deal for me to place a reservation. I really hope they can nail the price!!

Hi everyone, and welcome to the Scout Community forum!

My name is Jamie (Jamie@ScoutMotors), and with my cohort Chris (Chris@ScoutMotors), we will be your central "tour guides," so to speak, here in the forums. We will do our best to answer your questions, help with any forum issues you might have, and generally try and keep things moving along and share Scout news when we can. We couldn't be more excited about the return of Scout and hope you are as well.

About myself - I've been a lifelong car enthusiast and have owned various brands and types. I've also modified many cars along the way and love to tinker and explore. I started the VW enthusiast website, VWvortex back in the day, and it became one of the biggest automotive forums in the world, so I've had a lot of experience running forums like this one. At VWVortex, we built and restored numerous cars, from some beautiful Volkswagen Mk2 GTIs to a 500hp "Super" Beetle converted to AWD that won awards at the SEMA show. All of it was shared with our readers in detail in our forums and on our website, and I think you will see similar things here at the Scout forums in the future.

Growing up, one of my uncles had a Scout 800a with a V8 that he was "restoring" for many years. Not a ton of progress was made outside of basic (and non-basic!) maintenance, but I remember spending a lot of time in the garage with a beverage or two discussing the potential. It was great fun to tool around in, and we'd often take it into town to run errands where numerous people would stop to ask questions and share their Scout stories.

I've been an avid outdoors person most of my life and have spent time overlanding, back country hiking for days, off-roading everything from mud bogs down south to Hells Revenge to Imogene Pass to Black Bear Pass. I have also helped wrench numerous Jeep, Toyota, Nissan and Ford off-road projects, so I have some background that lends itself well to being involved in Scout.

You rarely get a chance to be involved in the start of a car company, let alone one with the history that Scout has. I am as excited as you to see what the team puts together and can tell you that everyone behind the scenes is incredibly passionate about this undertaking. The new Scout can't be everything to everyone, but the team here is trying hard to tick all the boxes that make a Scout a Scout.

So welcome to the forum, and please take a moment to introduce yourself, tell us any Scout stories you may have, and join us on this ride as we work to bring the Scout back to America.

See you in the forums!

- Jamie
Hey Jamie! I’m a manufacturing and marketing expert just poking around to learn. I recently just uncovered some hidden talents in my automotive experience from purchasing my new vehicle and doing some work to it myself.

To make this post worth reading, I wanted to share from a new enthusiast that I often hear so many people in the community speaking on such advanced knowledge in traditional motors. If the same passion and innovation was put from those same awesome hands that built gas engines I think the automotive and EV industry can really start to make some strides.

The only difference between all of the electronics on electric cars and all of the heavy metal parts on traditional automobiles is that the type of cramp your fingers will get from the tedious fitting might be slightly different. (Of course many more things but this is a silly way to put it)

Sincere thanks for reading

Shout out to all the marketing/communications professionals, past and present, for their superior sense of aesthetics.

I’ve clocked quite a few, incl. the current CEO of Scout Motors, which is pretty dope.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. There’s definitely a LOT to check out - I’m still working my way through it all. Truth be told though, I lurked for a while before joining or posting (still kicking myself that I don’t have a “1st Year Member” badge haha)…even still I’m not caught up yet! Lots of exciting stuff to sift through. :)(y)

I definitely agree. You’ve been fortunate enough to be along for the whole ride, so awesome!! I’m enjoying the forum, the people, the excitement, and the involvement from SM. Really that’s what sealed it for me - seeing the interaction between Scout Motors and the community. I kept seeing them involve the community and future customers in the development of their vehicles…finally I said to myself “just join already!”.

You seem familiar somehow....perhaps the username...

Figured I'd introduce myself. The name is Shane and I reserved a Terra Harvester. Been a farmer my whole life and always had IH stuff around. Currently still have a beat up '66 1100A pickup I use on occasion. Besides still running the family farm I run a nuisance wildlife removal business. Bought a Ford Maverick for business use last year because of the mileage. Mileage is great but definitely short on room for equipment. Looking forward to a full size pickup with affordable mileage again. All the other EV options look like they aren't meant for anything beyond grocery trips on pavement. I'm hoping this new version can take a beating and keep on going like it's predecessor.
