[Terra] Double cab with a 6.5' bed

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Would love to have an option for a slightly longer (6.5') bed with a slightly shorter (double) cab.

We don't need a lounge in the back seat. When they are occupied, they would mostly be occupied by kids. So a double cab would be a perfect fit.

On the other hand, having a slightly longer bed would be a big advantage for a camper shell build.

This could be accommodated easily since the wheelbase and length of a double cab w/ 6.5' bed would be the same as the crew cab w/ 5.5' bed.

I’ve had a couple Tacoma extra cabs. Great for tools, you could squeeze someone back there if needed and you could look over your shoulder to see what was going on in the usably sized bed.

I’m not sure I entirely agree with the “go for the biggest market” plan. If you’re selling something unique, that segment of the market, though smaller, is all yours. Of course, by the time it’s actually available, who knows what the competitive landscape will be.

I’m just agreeing with others. I prefer a 6.5’ bed and ‘extra cab’. My F-150 has the extra cab and it’s great for driving people around town, though not big enough to go across country. The 6.5’ bed is really nice when you need it. I have a deposit down. Hopefully this gets considered as an option.

Back when Tundras were scarce we accepted a long-bed short-cab 2022. We're well into the grandparent years and have no grandchildren, so bought into the idea that the short leg-room in the back seat was a non-issue. Boy were we wrong. The first friend to ride was a 6-footer, so my 5-2 wife went in back and he pulled the seat up so she could get her knees and feet in. Both ended up cramped. Next a neighbor's wheeled chair needed to fit inside. When we made a grocery run the bags wouldn't fit on the floor ... so basically anything else that needed to fit in the back seat had to go on the seat and be buckled or tied in. Every justification we made for accepting that short cab was quickly trashed. That mistake ended up costing us nearly $20K to dump that otherwise fine truck with <8K miles on it and buy a Tundra with a crew cab.

That said, I can easily see many uses of the longer bed, and back when I was hauling lots of plywood and construction materials there were days when a true 8' bed would have been useful. But just maybe, the EV Scouts should just remain as Scouts and let the other manufacturers handle the long bed marketplace.

Having owned 2 half ton extended cabs - my only real complaint is loading passengers in parking lots. Extend cabs in sub 1/2 ton trucks - it is virtually gear/dog space only (unless in an emergency).

I think this thread needs a Decoder for discussing Cabs, since they all use different names for some of them:

I’m not buying a Terra so no skin in the game. Clarifying this before my comment !!!
It’s funny a month ago everyone on the forum wanted a small single can pick up similar to the Maverick and now everyone wants bigger cab and bigger bed.
Just interesting to see the evolution of buyer demographics. SM must have heads spinning trying to figure out how to make the perfect pick up for everyone.
I sincerely hope they figure out the balance before start of production to try and make at least 80-90% of buyers happy! That’s a big ask but it’s a brand new company-does SM accept the challenge?
Personally I think they already figured it out 😉

I don't really think they had to figure it out. The market had already spoken on this before they even started. They need to have Crew Cab. It's overwhelmingly what the market buys.

While it would be nice to offer alternatives, that isn't likely unless/until they have massive volume.

Agreed. Unfortunately the masses will determine what is available, especially out of the starting gates. Hopefully their volumes will quickly get to a point that they can offer alternatives.
