SCOUT TERRA FAQ

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I would love to see a transfer case with
- 2x High
- All wheel
- 4x High
- 4x Low

Where "All wheel" is your run on 2x, bring in the other wheels on demand method.

And 4x high is the traditional all time 4x4, we expect I off roader.
I don’t think you will need any of that technology because Scout will be 2 motor AWD/4WD automatic anti-slip 2027 technology. I have a 2018 AWF Ridgeline and it always knows what to do and never spins a tire.

I admit to being terminally confused by the terminology and also no longer being enough of a gearhead to delve into the engineering distinctions. I'm sure that much of the confusion comes from different manufacturers having used the same term to describe what are actually different setups. I recall that a decade or so ago Subaru put out a paper trying to clarify, and claiming theirs' is the real thing. Of course that was met with a lot of automotive pundits saying 'but not really.' IH was good at confusing/misleading us, too. I have four almost identical spec Scouts in my garage, all have the "AllWheelDrive" emblem on the front fenders. One has no warn hubs, #2 had PowrLok both front and back, #3 has PowrLok in rear only, #4 has no PowrLock in either differential. So which one is REAL 4WD?

What I also recall is that not too many decades ago there existed a useful snow/ice 4WD technique to improve traction by gently touching the brake pedal enough to fool the computers into believing that it would be useful to send a power to all the wheels. But then those powers that believe they can protect us from every possible indiscretion decided that too many elderly folk were crashing into restaurants by being on the wrong pedal or bridging the two. So they broke that technique by making just a hint of brake disable the accelerator.

Yes, I know EV and it's electric motors changed all I ever knew; so all I ask is that whatever the engineers design and whatever SM calls it, I want a clear explanation of exactly what it does, and under what conditions some computer will just do what it wants despite my hopes and intentions.
