SCOUT TERRA FAQ

HighresScreenshot00060.png

Our Scout support teams have set up a central location for all questions regarding the company, products, reservations and more it can be found here:

The Scout support link above will always have the latest official answers.

We will do our best to maintain a "greatest hits" FAQ in the Scout Community to help answer some of the most frequent questions here in the forums.

Q: Where can I find more information about the Scout Terra?

A: https://www.scoutmotors.com/terra

Q: How can I place a reservation?

A: https://www.scoutmotors.com and click on "RESERVATION" in the upper right-hand corner.

Q: Why are Scout vehicles fully electric?

A: New Scout vehicles are designed to be equipped with electric powertrains that push capability and performance into the future while aiming to reduce environmental impact. These powertrains would enhance off-road capabilities with instant torque and precise control, delivering better performance than traditional gas vehicles.

With an electric powertrain, we intend to deliver exceptional off-road capability, massive torque for towing and working, and top-tier ride quality. Plus, it enables useful features like powering accessories off-site -- whether for tailgating, camping, or working remotely -- or even powering your home during a power outage. We’ve perfectly blended our rugged heritage with cutting-edge technology to create a Scout vehicle ready for today’s adventures and tomorrow’s challenges.

Q: Will a gas-burning or hybrid version be available in the future?

A: Scout Motors is focus on electric vehicles because we believe it's the best way to deliver peak performance, capability, and sustainability. Electric powertrains offer instant torque, enhanced off-road capabilities, and integrated features like powering accessories or even homes — capabilities that gas-powered or hybrid vehicles can’t match.

We understand some drivers may have concerns about battery range, so in addition to our fully electric models, we expect offer options with a gas-powered range extender (REX) system to extend the vehicle's maximum range from a projected estimate of up to 350 miles (563 km) to more than 500 miles (804 km), based on manufacturers internal estimates. EPA estimates will be provided when available.

Q: Can I provide feedback or input on Scout vehicles?

A: Yes, right here in our Scout Community forums. Our teams regularly read the forums here and respond to many suggestions and questions.

Q: Where are you building the new Scout vehicles?

A: At a brand new Scout Production Center in Blythewood, South Carolina.

Q: How much will Scout vehicles cost?

A: Entry-model Scout vehicles are expected to be priced starting under $60,000. We'll be sharing more details about pricing as we get closer to production. Pricing is subject to change.

Q: What exterior dimensions will Scout vehicles have?

A:
Traveler SUV Dimensions*
Length With Spare Wheel Carrier: 207.9 in
Length Without Spare Wheel Carrier: 190.9 in
Width Without Mirrors: 79.9 in
Width With Mirrors: 91.6 in
Max Height: 76.3 in
Wheelbase: 120.4 in
Max Ground Clearance: 12+ in
Offered Tire Size: 35 in

Terra Pickup Dimensions*
Length: 229.2 in
Width Without Mirrors 79.9 in
Width With Mirrors 91.6 in
Max Height: 77.7 in
Wheelbase: 148.6 in
Max Ground Clearance: 12+ in
Bed Length: 66 in (5.5 ft)
Cab to Bumper: 71.7 in
Offered Tire Size: 35 in

*Dimensions are approximate and subject to change. They may not accurately represent production vehicle sizes or all available trims and offerings.

Q: What level of off-road capability will Scout vehicles have?

A: Scout vehicles are designed to be highly capable off-road, featuring high ground clearance and excellent approach, departure, and breakover angles. They are projected to come standard with dual motors for four-wheel drive, a solid rear axle, a locking rear differential, and off-road drive modes. Plus, the bumpers and rockers are separated from the body and are designed to act as protective elements.

For even more capability, customers will be able to select an optional off-road package, which includes off-road tires, special shock tuning, a locking front differential, and more. Scout vehicles will also offer a front sway bar disconnect, designed to improve wheel articulation, comfort, and traction on uneven terrain – offering the best of both on-road and off-road handling. Final details will be confirmed as we approach production.

Q: What manufacturer estimated range will Scout vehicles offer?

A: Scout Motors estimates the Traveler™ SUV and Terra™ pickup will have up to 350 miles (563 km) of all-electric range or more than 500 miles (804 km) for gas-powered range extender-equipped versions. These are manufacturer's projected estimate based on internal targets. EPA estimates will be provided when available.

Q: How will the Harvester™ range extender work?

A: To account for different work needs, we're planning to offer the choice of two energy systems: an all-electric system, or a gas-powered range extender called Harvester™. The Harvester™ Range Extender is a generator packaged in the vehicle platform that will recharge the vehicle's high voltage battery. It unlocks the ability to refuel anywhere and extend the expected range to over 500 miles (based on manufacturer estimates, EPA estimates will be provided when available.).

Q: What is the projected ground clearance for Scout vehicles?

A: Scout vehicles are projected to offer over 1 foot of ground clearance. These are preliminary specifications and may change. They may not accurately represent production vehicle sizes or all available trims and offerings. Final details will be confirmed as we approach production.

Q: What water fording capability will Scout vehicles offer?

A: Both Scout models are engineered for high water fording performance, with a projected ability to wade through and traverse water depths of nearly 3 feet.

Q: Will Scout vehicles offer a front bench seat?

A: Yes. We plan for customers to choose between a multifunctional console or a front bench seat—both options will be available to order in the Traveler™ and Terra™ models.

Nice to have this thread. Thanks, Jamie!

Since this is the Terra FAQ thread, though, it might be good to replace the "Where can I find more information about the Scout Traveller?" and associated link to reference the Terra.

So rear locker is standard.
Front locker with sway bar disconnect will be par of offroad package. Got it.

Does the Terra has roll down back window like tundra? It looks like that from the launch event with it having a large panel in the center and 2 small triangles to the side. If so that would be a great addition.

I hated the small square side-sliding window on my F150, basically useless other than provide some ventilation. And it's frame just blocked the rear sights in mirror. And the seal around it will fall and leak over time. It's why I opted for no sliding window at all on my Mavericks.

Also, is Scout considering a drop down mid gate to made possible to connect cabin to the bed? I know both ford and Chevy are looking into it. It would be great feature for hauling long stuff or camping in bed.

Okay, I feel like I’m losing my marbles here…where did it go? I swear I saw it in print somewhere that the rear Terra window fully rolls down like some Tundras do. I don’t see it in the FAQ which is where I thought I saw it…I also searched and can’t find it. Although I do see other posts where people are saying it rolls down, but I can’t tell if that’s speculation or if it was confirmed by Scout Motors. Sorry, I tried but I can’t find confirmation. I had thought it was confirmed.

A video at the reveal event shows the window dropping. Therefore I’m 99.9997% sure it will be available. Whether it’s standard or upgrade I don’t know but seems like a difficult option to offer do to all the moving parts

It's prominently featured on the main https://www.scoutmotors.com/terra page. Scroll down until you see the buttons for Exterior/Interior/360 View/Dimensions. Exterior is selected initially. Click the second from the left red dot, positioned on the rear window. That will show a short animation of the rear window retracting downwards, along with a textual description.

Thank you. Found it

Those specific details are still being sorted out. I wouldn't assume anything at this point.
I'm not sure what this response relates to, but I have another point that I hope can be similarly addressed.

It appears that the front locker may be available only in an off-road package. Those of us who won't be into serious off-roading but will be driving in areas with significant snow and ice could sure benefit from tandem lockers. We probably don't need most of the other items of the serious off-road package. Can there be a "North Country" or "Canadiene" package which gives us the front locker and whatever else might be appropriate?

FWIW, lockers can actually make driving in snow more dangerous at times. With an open diff, one wheel spins, and the others sit... like anchors in the snow. And when you're sliding laterally on slick roads, that is a good thing. Even limited slips are generally better in that respect.

For getting unstuck, or in deep snow without a "bottom" (ie, not the pavement), then yes, lockers are great. But for snowy roads, they can be sketchy. The upside is that these will be selectable lockers, which means you can disable/enable them at will. But having driven with pop-lockers in the snow... I wouldn't be leaving them on full time on snowy mountain roads I can tell you that.

Which, that actually brings up a good point. Is there going to be an "full time 4x4" mode, and any form of electronic/brake driven limited slip technowizardy? Lockers are great, but there are times when you might want more than an open diff, and less than the lockers (like said snow conditions). Being able to have that as an "in-between" would be great.

Thanks for the reminder. I know 4wd is very sensitive to different conditions because I did have the PowrLock on both axles an early Scout back in the 70s and lived in PA were we got both deep snows and lots of icy conditions. I'm not fully aware of the distinctions you raise, but it was very helpful under most conditions. I think it would best fit me to have something like your speculations in your final paragraph, adjustability. Climate change is making my world more likely to have an ice layer on my 1200ft, <10% grade driveway. But that can be accompanied by drifts up to 4ft deep. and those conditions literally a car length apart. And there's always the opportunity of skidding off into the surrounding fields (or snowbank left from previous storms). In short I need to be prepared for anything. That's why your suggestion of a mixt-mode controllable offering is appealing. My current solution is in the picture (x4).

Is there a Scout branded bed cover planned, perhaps a retractable option?

Loved the glass roof, is it solid or coming with a sunroof style option?

As of now, no cover listed but there seems to be interest so I’d guess something will develop

As for roof, currently it is solid and will probably end up with an interior shade. Word is the electrochromatic glass is too pricey. People keep asking for operable sunroof but with the cabana top it may be a crap shoot if glass operates

I would love to see a transfer case with
- 2x High
- All wheel
- 4x High
- 4x Low

Where "All wheel" is your run on 2x, bring in the other wheels on demand method.

And 4x high is the traditional all time 4x4, we expect I off roader.

Personally, I don’t know how offten I open the sunroof in my Jeep. I wanted the panoramic sunroof but was disappointed it only opened halfway.

I do however find some sort of cover necessary to maintain comfort, privacy, and reduce the need for sunscreen on those long drives when I lose my hair!

I'd be very happy to have solid metal roof and nothing that opens or lets glaring light in from above. We've had glass and openable roofs on vehicles for about 10 years and can count the times they've been opened on one hand. We keep the shade closed and try to ignore them. In a parade when we had kids along who wanted to stand on the seats and wave is the only use we ever found for it. They are noisy, and the direct sun is great for skin cancer, and the indirect glare that bounces off glasses and eyes is annoying to dangerous. We had to take the roofs because of "packages", I hope SM will have a DELETE option for all such contrivances.
