[Terra] Double cab with a 6.5' bed

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Would love to have an option for a slightly longer (6.5') bed with a slightly shorter (double) cab.

We don't need a lounge in the back seat. When they are occupied, they would mostly be occupied by kids. So a double cab would be a perfect fit.

On the other hand, having a slightly longer bed would be a big advantage for a camper shell build.

This could be accommodated easily since the wheelbase and length of a double cab w/ 6.5' bed would be the same as the crew cab w/ 5.5' bed.

I agree with an optionable longer Terra Bed at 6.5 Feet, although I do not want to sacrifice interior cabin space for mine

Sigh... One reason I never really considered getting a Raptor was the lack of the 6.5' bed. They make F150's with an extend cab and a 6.5' bed now - but not Raptors. I made the mistake of getting my first F150 with a 5.5' bed. I used that truck well, and it lasted forever for me - but it's replacement was a F250 with a 6.5' bed... Now I love the extra towing power - and honestly have yet to get a camper shell for it, I use it to tow too much.

I'm also in the extended cab (supercab) (doublecab) with 6.5 cargo box camp.

Have delayed purchasing a '23/24/25 GM Twins or Ford Ranger to replace my '17 extended cab Colorado totally due to the lack of an extended cab.

Yes, Toyota and Nissan have a few extended cab models/trims . . . but, First they are imports. Second, as GM/Ford have done with the full-size regular cab there are very limited feature/trim/options on the not-a-crewcab models. Manufactures are focused on the second car family buyers . . . not folks that use a pickup as a pickup.

IMHO Scout Motors should have started with the Extended Cab 6.5'ish cargo bed leaving family users for the SUV Traveler. Then we would have a nice off-road EV pickup that could move cargo instead of people.

Every single EV/PHEV competitor Truck has a sub 6 foot bed. Rivian, Tesla, Ford, Ram, and GM, are all under 6 feet.

They know where the volume is, and it's the short bed trucks.

It's no fun when the market majority drives choice, and you don't match the majority...

I just wanted to note that we really can’t base any expectations off of what is offered on the F-150, we have to look at the market as a whole. The F-150 is in its own league as I’m pretty sure they sold north of three quarters of a million F-150s in 2023 alone.

Ford has an easy option for people who want a 6.5' bed - either custom order it, or get an F250. Where I live, F250's are probably more common than F150's. Stocking vehicles cost dealerships money. Why split the F150 sales, when a more expensive option is available with the F250. FWIW - 6.5' IS still considered a short bed truck. Plenty of F250's are sold with 8' beds as well.

While not the worse mistake I ever made, the only thing that kept me from completely loving my F150 crew cab was that cursed 5.5' bed. I had 2 6.5' bed trucks before it, and now know and will NEVER buy another 5.5' bed truck again.

When I purchased my last truck - I did not bother to test drive a Raptor. It was not offered with a 6.5' bed. It also was not offered as an extend cab at all (which I probably would have considered if it had a 6.5' bed - have owned 2 extend cabs before the crew cab I was replacing (both the extend cab trucks had 6.5' beds. The King Ranch F250 was in the same price range as the Raptor at that time.

They don't for the lightning though. It's easy to offer niche options when you sell over 500K models, then your niche longbox F150 might still be 50K sales.

But for the EV trucks, where your sales might be starting at 50K sales, then that niche is only 5K...

Yup. Precisely. Big picture. This right here 👆

The 2024 F-150 and Silverado offer a 6.5 foot bed with the longest extended cab, so scout should compete with that and also offer a 6.5 foot bed with the cab they already have. If other companies are giving you the best of both worlds, then scout needs to do that too

I’m not buying a Terra so no skin in the game. Clarifying this before my comment !!!
It’s funny a month ago everyone on the forum wanted a small single can pick up similar to the Maverick and now everyone wants bigger cab and bigger bed.
Just interesting to see the evolution of buyer demographics. SM must have heads spinning trying to figure out how to make the perfect pick up for everyone.
I sincerely hope they figure out the balance before start of production to try and make at least 80-90% of buyers happy! That’s a big ask but it’s a brand new company-does SM accept the challenge?

I see where you’re coming from. Is Scout Motors looking to compete in that space at startup though? I guess in my mind, I wasn’t thinking of those being their aim. I really don’t know. I could be way off-base.

I have often questioned if Ford made the Lightning to fail. We tried, nobody liked it - now lets continue to cash in on what works.

But honestly, at least from my personal experience. You don't really want a longer truck, till you realize you need a longer truck. The true niche is the extend cab (as opposed to crew cab). I have had 3. They are great for a small group of people. They suck as family vehicles, but are great as work vehicles when you know you are using the second row for tools.

Yeah I definitely fall into that niche, which is why I think the 6.5 bed is a good idea.
