First of all, this is not intended to hijack the hopes and dreams of our off-road adventure-loving friends in these forums. I want them to get all that they want, and all of their great ideas to be listened to.
Off-road performance is certainly synonymous with the OG Scout, but one of the things that I remember well from my younger days was the exciting, if rare, sighting of a TravelAll on the highway with a family in it, sometimes pulling a cool trailer like an Airstream. Seeing one, at least in my mind, was an occasion.
I have a larger SUV and use its capacity a lot. I also own a small EV. I’m hoping my next large-ish SUV can can also be an EV.
From the initial sneak peaks provided by the ‘new’ Scout brand, it looks like there will be 4 door versions. I welcome an off-road focused version of that, but I’ll step up as the guy who wants an on-road, big-battery, comfortable ‘TravelAll’ version that I can pack up for weekend activities, road trip, and tow things from time to time.
Not sure about fake wood on the sides, but the outward proportions and huge greenhouse of the TravelAll have always appealed to me. The simplistic and ‘attempted elegance’ of the interior back in the day (check out the button-tufted seats) could be made unique and interesting with modern materials and design.
Maybe this ask isn’t in the cards straight away, but an extended wheelbase version of a 4 Door Scout marketed as a TravelAll seems interesting to me.
For inspiration...
