So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Although we only have a single side view, I like the look thus far. I had a deposit down on the all electric Ram but they completely went away from that prototype so I am out. I really liked their initial design idea of being able to put boards in the box and open up a space that would essentially go all the way through into the frunk and thus you could haul a few really long boards. I would buy a Rivian but I cannot get past the “Playschool” toy appearing front end. Please, stay true to the Scout look with an appropriate modern twist and think through all the little things that can make your truck (and SUV) different from the others. Also, please let us know when we can begin placing deposits because I am in.

Hate it and don't see the point. Can the Bronco drive around with the swing gate open with a tire on it? I doubt it.
I guess you could, likely wouldn't end well. Personally, I like the slide out tailgate as I used it for surf fishing and that where I eat my lunch on nice days. Im indifferent on the idea of the swing out tailgate vs. the fold down. I thought the slide out tailgate was a good compromise. I do like the classic Landcruiser 62 series which has a split tailgate fold down.

For some price perspective, the average new car price in 1980 was ~$7,000. The base price of a new Scout in 1980 was $8,017 - 14.5% higher than the average car. The average new car price in 2023 is ~$48,000. If I do a little math, that makes a theoretical 2023 Scout ~$55,000 and that is a BASE Scout. Cars are expensive and the Scout was always more than a car.
Of course I hope it is less than $55k but that's not unreasonable based on inflation.
FYI, I got the values from a Bing search. They may not be perfect but probably close.
Thanks for this analysis, it’s exactly what I was looking for when I searched for “price” on here.

There is one other important variable or factor in your math equation... That is that it is also an EV.
If you add the premium for EV's (which, on AVG in 2023 was + $12K compared to ICE) you land at $67K
That doesn't mean the first Scout is going to cost $67K, BUT if you were to compare specifications, it might be somewhere in the ballpark.

We don't even know the size of the Scout yet. Is it the size of an Explorer- Rivian R1- F-150 or size of Wrangler - Bronco- Rivian R2?

If the latter Rivian has set the bar at $45,000 300 mile range and the R3 even lower.

My Bronco was just over $55k. Equivalent Defender is $75k. I would pay $55k for a awd Scout with options

I think there were some indications on size that were already made.
The Pick Up will be slightly larger than the Rivian - it will be "Full-size / F-150 lightening sized".
The SUV will Yukon-ish

I feel pretty confident it will not be Yukon-ish. My guess is it will be Bronco/Wrangler size. My hope is that it will be like a slightly shorter, 4-door Traveller.

Based on the fact that the pick up will be F-150/ford lighting size on that frame size I gotta believe it will be the size of a 2/3 row suv. The Ford lightning is 232”. My hunch is length will be around 200-ish inches which is between a Yukon and a Kia telluride. At 200” that’s about 30” longer than a Scout II if my searches were correct. I believe the Bronco is at roughly 196”.
A regular Toyota Highlander is 197”. 4-runner is almost 192” and new Land Cruiser is 194”. The new Lexus GX is also 197”.
Just my 2 cents worth.

The above is accurate based on what we have heard to date. Don't shoot the messenger! LOL.

Quick Google Search:

"Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh has said the Scout SUV will arrive first, with the full-size pickup truck (likely a Ford F-150 Lightning rival) arriving six to seven months later. Based on this, we should get a design preview in the coming months."

If it’s the size of a Yukon, it’s not an off road vehicle; it’s more of a vehicle that just looks the part for those who don’t know any better, like a Z71 or Trail Boss or whatever name the marketing department slaps on an otherwise minivan.

I get you where you are going - and would agree for the hard-core overlanding Rock Crawling types, there will likely be some limitations. A larger footprint for the SUV could make it more challenging for certain obstacles or preclude the vehicle from certain sections of trails. I think the Rubicon Trail has sections that are narrow and I know there are others, however, that doesn't mean it won't be an off-road vehicle. It also doesn't mean that there won't be a 2 door version or some other version in the future. I think we know that the first pick up will be F-150 sized and that the first SUV will have 4 doors and be a full-sized SUV. I also think this was highly intentional to get buyers, and to get immediate lift-off in terms of sales. You are dealing with either a larger addressable marketplace by serving more buyers out of the gate, or choosing to limit yourself by creating a highly specialized smaller footprint vehicle. At the end of the day, that is business. That doesn't mean that the first two vehicles are the end of any future launches. We just saw Rivian do this with the R2 and R3. I don't have any dog in the SUV hunt, as I am more interested in the truck though.

I guess we’ll see later this summer but I’ll stick with my guess of Bronco/wrangler size. If it’s a full-size SUV, it won’t be anywhere near the stated price target. Who says the SUV and truck will have the same platform? Even if they do, it doesn’t mean they’ll be the same size vehicle. Automakers stretch and squeeze platforms all the time to produce different size vehicles.

Yeah, not sure if anyone said they will be on identical platforms... Either way, I'm still very much looking to the reveal and seeing BOTH.

We haven't confirmed dimensions yet. It is safe to say we will be competitive in the segment. Honestly, I was surprised at the dimensions of some of the above models. Debate on... :D
