Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Yes, this is already a thing, and OTHER smart businesses are also installing chargers to draw people to other parts of their non-gas businesses.

Uptake seems to be a little slower with the bigger O&G gas stations on the East Coast, although Shell claims to have 4000 US charging locations, and they are also catering to Fleets: https://www.shell.us/business/mobil...pc3QvZWxlY3RyaWMtdmVoaWNsZS1jaGFyZ2luZy5odG1s

My favorite convenience store location to charge (that has gas) when road tripping down I-95 is probably a WaWa, b/c I am usually in need of ice, food, snacks and a bathroom by the time I get to WaWa country. WaWa also has the most kick-ass pre-made breakfast sandwiches on a croissant. Apparently there are now 175 WaWa locations with DCFC's. https://www.wawa.com/fuel-ev-charging
You can thank PA for WaWa. Your welcome🤣
They have awesome subs too

Let's even the score: https://www.sheetz.com/newsroom/art...-2-million-electric-vehicle-charging-sessions 😁

One of the great thing about the Rivian RAN chargers is that they are completely independent and have done a good job (at least in the Northeast) of locating them in excellent locations. For example, in Brattleboro VT, Rivian located their charging bank right off the exit adjacent to the VT Marketplace that sells all sorts of VT stuff, has a couple of restaurants and a bar & a food truck, as well as anything else you might need (all within walking distance of your truck): https://vermontmarket.com/. The RAN station in RI is located adjacent to a Chipotle, a Starbucks, a theatre and a TX Roadhouse I think.

Who knows, but maybe part of the Rivian relationship will eventually open up these independent Rivian charging locations to Scout vehicles too.

For the purposes of this EV based site I agree. Ironically they just announced this week that company size (revenue I suppose), Wawa is #22 and Sheetz is #31-ish.
Ultimately I like them both and this was a nice rabbit hole to fall down 🤣. I have one of each equi-distant from my house and 9 times out of 10 I go to Sheetz.
If I really want to stir the pot I’ll mention my daughter thinks Sheetz is way better than Buc-ees. No skin in the game as I’ve never been to Buc-ees but let that debate begin 🤣

Oh, we’re doing this? Then I’m throwing down Cumberland Farms for regional gas-and-convenience stakes. Their gas does not make your car backfire and their private label snacks aren’t gross. Only a few have EV chargers, though.

This thread is a perfect example of range anxiety when it meets the real world.
  1. You have it.
  2. You express it.
  3. People reassure you.
  4. Back-and-forth.
  5. .
  6. .
  7. .
  8. Eventually it's forgotten for more interesting questions like which roadtrip store is better.
Snacks are just as important on a road trip as is charging!
We’ll-almost

I gotta say, I find it a little sad that all we have up here in the NE are crappy gas stations with mobile marts and 'Dunks, or we go to the Cumbies. Just really no comparison to the Sheetz's or the WaWa's of the world. Even a Maplefields or Caseys can't stack up!

SHHHHHHHH, they need to think we have something worthwhile here. We really don’t unless you count BJ’s as a convenient place to stop and get new tires, your propane tank refilled, a crappy couch with cup holders, eyeglasses, frozen shrimp, and a bag of avocados. Plus gas. Some have chargers.
