Scout has indicated both the Traveler and Terra will start under $60k for the entry model. It's likely the models shown during the reveal aren't the entry model.

What do you think the specs will be for the entry model? Here's some speculation, it'd be interesting to hear what others think.
    • Less than 350 miles for battery-only version, meaning smaller battery. Perhaps in the 250-300 range?
    • Less off-road capability: lower suspension, smaller tires, spare tire optional, no front sway bar disconnect, possibly only rear locker or no locker?
    • Less performance: 0-60 in 4.5-5.0 seconds, less torque, lower towing max
    • Simpler interior: lower quality materials, non-premium audio, solid/steel roof standard (glass optional), no cabana top option, no extended range option.
What do you think the price of the upper trim model will be? $70-75k for the models shown at the reveal? $80-85k for the extended range model?

This is my primary concern. The entry level might be a stripped down basic version and they price the range extender model close to $100k so as to not cannibalize other VW offerings. They will definitely try to sell up and this might spoil all the excitement. Just a concern though; i will be happy if they don't and price it "right".

I would love for there to be trim level that was utilitarian to a point. Still want my back up cameras and some other creature comforts but with a low maintenance interior that keep the price in check. For those that want all the lux there are still the Land Rovers and G wagons out there.

I've been warning others to brace themselves on the pricing. What was shown at reveal will not be the promoted price - that we should all agree on.

    Regarding the Traveler entry model:
    - Expect EV only - 300 mile range
    - Expect solid steel roof. Glass moon roof or Cabana top will surely be an optional charge
    - All terrain street tires standard
    - Interior stripped down with cloth seats. The fridge console I expect to be an upcharge option. No mounting brackets on seat backs and cargo area.
    - Off-Road package (tires/lift/SBD/lockers/bash plates) will rival the Sasquatch package on the Bronco which is $8k on the lower trims (discounted on the Badlands as it includes features standard with the Sasquatch package).
    - Spare Tire Carrier optional (no spare on base model).
Now, Scout is in a bind as to whom to target for their customer base. If they want to target the Wagoneer customer base, they will be ignoring their heritage and the Scout community. The fabric of the community has always been blue-collar working class owners. No matter how many flannels hang in the closet of pleated-pant wearing middle managers - they will never be viewed as part of the off-road community.

I'm not sure how many trim SM will need to offer but I felt that Ford over complicated this process with the number of trims they made available. Base-->entry level, Outer Banks--> Luxury, Badland-->Pure off-roader and then of course you have Raptor which is in it's own class. IMO, this is all that was needed for the Bronco.

Agree largely. Look at whats happened to the Wrangler line though. Pricing is out of control. Never would I have imagined a 100k$ Wrangler?! Hell Mojave Gladiators are 60k+.

Maybe Scout/VW will learn from Jeep and how soft that market went. Bought my Mojave for 25%off sticker. Local dealership had 120 Gladiators on the lot back in April.

Sadly market segmentation is alive and well in the Auto industry. While there may not be a 2 wheel drive Wrangler - and you can aftermarket the best possible drive train and suspension for one - they still have lower performance drive trains available and they still probably sell more of them.

That said, the aftermarket route can add the better part of 20k to your Wrangler. Honestly, I think on my LJ, I could have easily hit 25k and that is still not even joking about long travel. Quality lift, performance shocks, air lockers, remote disconnect sway bars, regear, steering yolk upgrade, axle upgrade, sway bar upgrade... Still want to outboard. Outboarding with premium shocks will be the budget killer. Adjustable tuned remote reservoir coil overs are not cheep.

Given the number of VWoA employees now running Scout, my primary concern is they'll gatekeep options in the same way VW does. Want a color other than silver/black/white? Gotta buy the higher trim. Want Harvester? Gotta buy higher trim. Tow hitch? You get the idea. I'm entering this journey with the expectation Scout throws that BS out the window and simply lets people get what they want how they want it. Given they're direct-to-consumer aka no dealer inventory blah blah, it should be doable.

I agree. I would spec mine similarly and I’d want to add all of the off road options as well. Some things are even mandatory now, like backup cameras.

EDIT: when I say mandatory I’m talking about how the government requires it

This is my primary concern as well. Their base price is basically at my budget ceiling already and I will want all of the off road options in order to give up my current vehicle for it, so I can easily be priced out unfortunately.

I am very enthusiastic about the product and wholeheartedly want it to succeed, but price is my biggest worry when it comes to the Scout.

I couldn’t agree more. Price is one of the biggest things killing Jeep. Out of control is a good description.

I feel like the versions we saw on stage, are at least $70-90k vehicles.

We already know that the base model will offer a rear locker, while the front locker will be optional. Same thing with the roof, and the spare tire carrier.

I'm guessing the base model will:
    • Either low range BEV (~200-250 miles?) or the Harvester.
    • Feature a synthetic seat covering/material of some sort (Cloth, neoprene).
    • Come with 32-33in all season tires on steel wheels or similar.
    • Have an all steel roof
    • Not have the optional tire carriers
Like others, I'm worried I might be priced out. Even after incentives, the minimum price is more expensive than anything I've ever purchased other than my house. But I know thats a "me" problem, not a scout problem if I signed up for something that is out of my price range.

You’re not helping me remain optimistic! Maybe it’s just reality though. I’m in the same boat as you. ☹️

What would be funny is of that was the base models they showed at the reveal.

    Thats what I'm hoping for!!

I think this is pretty much a given. They were showing loaded trucks with pretty much all the top options. Entry level will be something like this.

    • Small battery will be in 220-250 range.
    • No lockers, no sway bar disconnect, 32-33" tire and matching suspension.
    • Solid steel roof.

Look at Bronco and Jeep. All of the off-road extras are optional, and those are primarily off-road trucks.

Adding Bigger Tires, Suspension, Lockers, Sway Disconnect will be and $8000+ package, that's the equivalent of Bronco "Sasquatch" package.

It will probably be and extra $2000 if you want a glass or cabana roof.

Top battery will probably be $4000.

    Luxury interior features: ????

    Compare a Base Wrangler 4 door: ~$37K
Rubicon X with Sky One Touch roof (similar to Cabana Top) and Automatic: ~$68K.

That's equivalent gear, IMO... So ~$30K price increase.

IMO, there is no way that the Scouts as shown are less than $80K.
