Advice from a Bronco owner

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Greetings all!

I reserved a Bronco within an hour of preorders opening up, and was one of the first in East Tennessee to have one. I’ve owner a Wrangler as well as two FJ Cruisers, so my “car type’ is pretty obvious: I like a beefy off-road vehicle with retro style. I’ve been awaiting the Scout reveal, and placed a reservation for one. That being said, my Bronco is by far my favorite of the vehicles I’ve owned. I’ll wait to see what the production Scout Traveller offers before making a decision, but I’d bet there a lot of us Bronco/Wrangler drivers in the crowd.

I thought I’d start a thread for those of us driving vehicles that Scout hopes to compete with to share thoughts on what could be better, and what we love, since Scout seems to earnestly be seeking feedback. Here are my thoughts:

-First and foremost, underpromise and over deliver! I was so excited about a Bronco with a hard top, preferably white (as shown at the reveal). While I’m sure COVID played a role, ford was unable to deliver either option in a timely manner. I delayed production once in hopes they’d work things out, but ultimately gave up and settled for a soft top. Scout, just don’t promise things you can’t deliver. Better to surprise us with cool options and features than to lead us down a path of disappointment.

-Heated and Ventilated seats. I live in the South, and unfortunately, I sweat just thinking about the sun. I love the Bronco’s heated seats, but ventilated seats would be a gamechanger. I’ve read Ford avoided this due to potential issues with water exposure. Any car -removable top or not- could suffer exposure to water. Ventilated seats extend opportunities to enjoy these vehicles with windows down and (in Scout’s case) top back. Give us the option, even if it comes with a warning about potential water issues!

-Inductive charging: I love wireless CarPlay, and I thought that, with the inductive charger in the Bronco, I’d never have to plug my phone in. Well, the inductive charger in the Bronco rarely works with my iPhone 14. Even when it does work, it seems to just slow battery drain. It never charges my phone up from where it was when placed on the charger. Please make sure your inductive charger actually charges! Having two -one for driver and one for passenger- would be a huge bonus.

-Early adopter swag: this is a positive from Ford. They were great to send random “surprises” in the mail for those of us in line for a Bronco. From posters to calendar to even a Bronco-themed hammock, these items helped with the wait time, and also helped in building brand identity. I also earned a good number of Ford rewards points that I could use for Bronco merchandise for being an early adopter.

-Events to showcase the vehicle: my wife and I were lucky enough to live just an hour away from the Bronco festival in Townsend Tennessee where Ford showcased the Bronco a solid year prior to release. This sealed the deal for me. It also helped to establish the vehicle’s lineage, as we had a great day checking out all the old Broncos at the event.

-Green! Ok, maybe it’s just me, but having no green option year-one was a huge letdown. Don’t be afraid to offer some cool colors. Not just 6 shades of gray.

-Top Engineering. I know the Traveler Cabana top isn’t removable, but it is a fairly unique design. The Bronco soft top has serious issues with leaks and breaks, even if you baby it. Scout, please have a team of engineers TRY and mess up the Cabana top, so that when it gets to market, it’s bullet proof.

-Style: Y’all already nailed this. I think the style is a perfect mix of retro and modern. I just hope this doesn’t get watered down too much (see point above about over delivering) on the production models, especially that gorgeous interior! (Anyone remember the interiors the first Broncos shown had, vs what we actually could order?)

That’s all I can think of for now. Hopefully others I’ll chime in!

Above all, I love what you’ve done with the vehicle so far! Keep it rugged. Keep it retro! I wish you all huge success, and hope to be driving a Scout in 2027.

I agree with you on this. I was a day one reservation with my Bronco.
Too many choices and then what was actually delivered was somewhat of a disappointment. But I still have my Bronco and still love it. And I actually was hoping for an electric Bronco by 2025 but we see that’s not happening.
The scout sold me on the interior and the hybrid option. I love the more luxurious look and the esthetics of the interior from the steering wheel to the digital screen.
I do hope there will be some cool swag for the long wait.
Hopefully they’ll learn what not to do from how Ford handled the Bronco. I personally didn’t have any but my other family members did.
And I did go to the Bronco off rodeo and loved it. I hope Scout does something similar.

Also a day-one reservation holder for the Bronco and was one of the first to have mine delivered in August 2021 (4dr Big Bend). Agree with everything said here for sure. I ended up selling it after two years (purchased a Kia Telluride, which I wholeheartedly love more than the Bronco). I'm hoping the Scout is more refined than the Bronco, which had not many redeeming qualities other than looking really cool and having serious off-road ability.

Having had two K5s, a late 70s Bronco, 8+ Jeeps, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, F150 Raptor, 6th gen Bronco, Bronco Raptor etc. etc. etc. in our immediate and extended family over the years…I basically agree with everything you’ve said. Would love to see Scout’s intro and deliveries go MUCH smoother than it went for Ford with the Bronco. In particular, I agree with the under promise and over deliver sentiment.

It doesn’t look like I can add an upvote here though.

I was in the group that when my Bronco was finished there was no news for six months about where it was. Obviously highly frustrating, I didn’t get my 2021 until halfway through 2022. If there are issues with production, just keep us apprised to the status, that’s all I ask…

I was also a day 1 reservation. Wouldn’t budge on hard top, lux package or tow package, so I got pushed to a 22. I still got it way before a lot of 21s were delivered.

I also was in the initial Bronco order process. Overall Ford did not do a good job. The top issues were huge among things like Broncos sitting for months on 'dirt mountain'.

One concern about Scout is if the production interiors will be like the prototypes?

The Broncos interiors were nothing like the prototype and much cheaper materials. Very plastic.
