What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

    How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

    Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

    So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I know it’s been stated that Carplay will be included, but I know a mfr can change it’s mind. I must have Carplay, nothing else works (I don’t have Android phone) as well. No mfr radio/nav/etc works seemlessly. They all think they do it best. Perhaps both Carplay for nav and music and Garmin for off the beaten path. Wireless Carplay please with wireless phone charging for two phones. And the basic Carplay is just fine… don’t need the fancy new control-everything-in-the-car Carplay 2.0.

My other must haves:

Smooth ride. Just match what Bronco and Defender have been able to do. I would be buying a Scout Traveller for an SUV replacement and not a Jeep. Don’t need extreme 4WD, just AWD or basic 4WD, so driving comfort is important.

Reliability is critical from the get-go.

Remote “start” for those very hot Arizona days. On the key fob, no phone subscription. No sunroof please!

Other nice-to-haves:

cooled or ventilated seats (AZ thing again);
reasonable step-in height w/base suspension model;
lots of head, leg, and hip room;
good on-center steering feel (no boats please);
if std power seats must have basic 2-person memory;
HomeLink;
power-folding mirrors;
virtual rear-view mirror/camera with multiple views including hitching;
optional (or standard) liftgate for easier rear access vs split liftgate;
Headrests that don’t push your head forward ala Volvo
No subscriptions for anything except luxury stuff. Nothing basic should have a subscription.
Keep costs down as low as possible.

I am sure there are more that I will think of, but to answer the OP’s original question… the ONE THING is Carplay.

One of the interesting items that helped make VW bugs was the ability to remove the body so that you had a sled. From there, a number of kits were developed that fit on top of the frame and drivetrain.
Western EVs would be SMART to make sleds and encourage others to put together kits to go on these. :
Fiberglass, or pipe cars would be ideal.
With this, I am assuming/hoping that your frame/drivetrain will be as good as the scouts (willys, jeeps, even ORIGINAL blazer) from the 60s/70s that I recall driving. These were not just off-road machines, but WORKING machines. We had a snowplow attached ours, along with a front winch and hitch. And obviously rear hitch. This was for moving boats around our lake and obviously taking care of local driveways/roads (rural no. ill).
If you produce a sled and get others to use it, you then gain your needed increase in manufacturing.

And I would encourage you consider a body like the 1972 Datson Truck OR to spin off some of your employees to build a kit similar to this based on your sled.

It was minimalist with ability to enhance. IOW, it was DIRT CHEAP to buy. High school, college boys bought these to move things, but also take bikes, motorcycles, etc around. It could haul a light-medium weight trailer. This could trailer a hobe cat which were popular back then. Construction workers bought them because if they needed HEAVY hauling, they used their companies trucks. But, this was a nice way to haul tools, lumber, light amount of dirt/bricks/etc.
Farmers bought them because they were.... CHEAP.

If your sled gets 100-150 MPC, then it becomes real useful for Farmers, kids, etc. If it has an upgrade to say 250 MPC, and has option for inverters ( ideally, 240V/20 A AND 120V/20A; possibly include 240V/20A DC for light welding ).
Once you get into 350 MPC, I would say skip the sled and keep that in-house.

The sled will allow a number of kit builders to do amazing things. And you can sell them parts such as a heat pump, computer system for adding advanced electronics, etc.

The ONE thing that you should consider is OTA updates and putting in the sensors, even on the sled. The ability to do recalls without bringing in an EV is huge.

I miss being able to use my key fob to open all of the windows and moonroof on my Honda Civic SI. It was a game changer after work on a hot day!
Even better is being able to cool your car down BEFORE you get there. These are EVs, so by having remote control and a heat pump/AC, you simply turn on cooling (or heating) before getting into the car.

The one option I want in the extended range versions is detailed control over the behavior of the battery and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) combination.

I watched one of the CES YouTube videos of the Scout, and while reviewing the interface they mentioned the driver can set the behavior behavior to be "auto", "battery only", and "full time ICE" (likely for towing). I want more control then that.

For example:
- I want the option to set different battery/ICE behavior when towing.
-- There should be an easily accessible option in the interface so I can quickly set "tow mode".
-- Tow mode should adjust the battery/ICE behavior and also configure everything else for towing (such as adjusting the rear sensors).
-- I want to set up a "towing configuration" with my preferences and have the interface remember and use them when I turn on "tow mode".
-- At a minimum, I want to be able to set how low to let the battery get before engaging the ICE, with this setting being different than non-towing mode.

- I want to be able to set the behavior when using the Scout as a generator (utility mode?).
-- I want the option to use battery only (with a user configurable cut off from 10% to 50%).
-- I want the option to set it to start the ICE when the battery gets below X% charge. I also want to be able to set it to charge up to Y% when that happens (and then turn off the ICE until it is needed again).
-- I want to option to shut off the ICE when the fuel gets below a certain level (again, configurable) when being used as a generator.
Agree. Building on this, I’d love for the software to allow the driver to put a destination in the nav system and have it calculate a ‘zero stop trip’’ to destination. For example, if my trip is 300 miles, the system would automatically calculate an optimal battery/Harvestor usage split to get me to my destination (with buffer)

Looking at both Truck and SUV.
Nice, but these will be competing against OTHER high-end EV trucks/SUVs that are already established.
By either you offering a minimalist truck, AND/OR offering a sled in which you get at least 1 other to make such a truck,
you can then occupy a space that NO ONE is in.
China, namely BSD, is looking to dump their heavily subsidized BYD Truck on the west, but if you have american made truck and yet, it goes for under $25K, better would be $20K, you would not be able to produce for the demand.

Problem is the minimal costs for materials/labor+ battery cost prevents an American company from hitting a $25K price point. Average new car prices in U.S. are right around $50K.
Audi is already looking to use the platform and battery so that ties into your comment but that won’t happen until after Scouts launch so they can benefit first with sales. SM has also noted the factory has capacity to produce for other companies if they go that route, at least based on what we’ve been told.
Knowing people want 700 miles per charge on recent threads I can’t see building a starter vehicle that’s stripped down to hit $25-30K and have any kind of worthwhile range. Would be nice for the small population willing to except a 100 miles range but I just don’t see it being a solid option and a low take rate would take the teams away from focusing on the core money-making vehicles. Just my opinion though

Let's see (I know you only asked for one)...
  1. A quality wireless charger that doesn't heat up the phone and puts it in a place where it can be easily viewed/set in and stays in place. Also wirelessly connecting to Apple Carplay would make it the chef's kiss.
  2. At least two seat, wheel, mirror settings for families with multiple drivers. I'm 6'4" and my wife is 5'6" so there is a large discrepancy in our settings.

Welcome to the forum.
I requested some time ago to actually have 3 memory settings just in case you have a teen driver at home. B/c you know they’ll want to drive it too

There is one car for sale in the United States for $20,000: the Nissan Versa, which is a shitbox. Labor costs are too high in the USA to build an affordable truck.

Yeah true. What would be nice would be unlimited settings, but have position 1 and 2 be buttons on the door. Then 3 to n could be brought up in the infotainment system. You could also then use that to remove or rearrange settings/assign the door buttons.
