From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.
Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.
How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.
Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Short history lesson:
When IH was broken up and sold off, the local IH dealer bought the light truck division. That dealer was John Glancy's father.
When John got older he with his brothers took over the business and established Super Scout Specialists.
The Light Line as we know it today is a network of about a dozen independent Scout and IH light truck parts, and repair/restoration shops/dealers. Each has a contract with John, something like a franchise, but the important thing is that they cooperate in lots of ways including parts and supporting us legacy Scout owners.
Loved the reference to Scout being the first SUV. In the same decade the Barracuda was the first "pony" car, beating Mustang to market
Chrysler launched the Plymouth Barracuda in the marketplace on April 1, 1964, technically beating the Ford Mustang's official on-sale date by sixteen days, but any plausible advantage provided by the abbreviated head start proved fruitless. Ford took 22,000 orders for Mustangs on April 17, 1964, its first day of sale. In contrast, Plymouth sold 23,500 Barracudas over the course of 1964.

That Scout II roof line is iconic. It's a nice inclusion to that very popular retro look. It would be cool to see the Scout 80 and 800 nose look used as well. Both features say "This is a Scout". I hope you don't try to match the Ford Bronco price points. Scouts were always better built then the Bronco with Ford bean counters cutting costs and making a vehicle that was a nice copy of the Scout 80 with that being all the Bronco had in common with the Scout. Even today, I imagine Ford still considers cost the first factor in manufacturing. Please don't follow them down that road. Make the price point of the Scout representative of the quality you build into it. Make the new Scouts the highest quality American made SUV's on the road. Build them like a Bentley SUV. I beleve Scout buyers won't mind paying for the quality and ruggedness.
Whoa Flash! Not that a Bentley is any slouch of an SUV but the price point of one outweighs the differences between it and say a Maserati or even a Jaguar or Land Rover. The Scout 80 was not developed with the Rolls Royce owner in mind. We can't afford another $150,000 SUV no matter how great the quality. Price it more like an iPace or Mach E yet with the over top off roadability of the 80/800 and they will be running 4 8 hour shifts to keep up. Especially if we get a range extender version similar to what Magna Steyr is developing for the Ineos Fusilier
Our office in Columbia, South Carolina, has added a new first-floor space we are calling the Scout Columbia Connection Center. This space opens up to the Columbia Fireflies ballpark and features information on Scout Motors and Scout history. Hours will be limited for now, but if you are in the neighborhood, please check it out.

This new space will allow the community to learn more about the history of the original Scout® vehicles through exhibits and displays. It will also showcase Scout Motors’ vision for the future and progress as construction work continues on the company’s Production Center in Blythewood.
“We are thrilled to open the doors of Scout Motors’ new Columbia Connection Center and welcome in our local community here in South Carolina to interact and engage with our team,” said Scout Motors Chief Production Officer Jan Spies. “As construction progresses on the site of our Production Center, this valuable asset will serve as a central hub for the general public to learn more about both the heritage and future of these iconic vehicles and our innovative company.”
The opening coincided with Opening Night for the Columbia Fireflies at Segra Park. The Columbia Connection Center's normal operating hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This new community hub follows the nomenclature of the other key Scout Motors facilities: the Production Center in Blythewood and the Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan.

Welcome to the first of our monthly progress updates on the construction of our new Blythewood, South Carolina Scout Production Center. In March 2023, we unveiled our plan for Scout Motors to build our new Scout vehicles at a state-of-the-art Blythewood, South Carolina factory. The site in Blythewood spans a vast 1,100 acres, strategically located about 20 minutes north and east of Columbia, South Carolina.
This is a rendering (subject to changes) of the overall buildings:
As you can see in the photo above, our production center's main structures include a body shop, a paint shop, and final assembly buildings. The site also features a state-of-the-art training center for our employees and a technology center to support our future vehicles.
Over the past year, substantial work needed to be done to prepare the grounds for actual factory building construction. This involved extensive work such as grading the property flat, stabilizing the soil, relocating utilities, and adding upgraded and additional utilities. In total, we have moved over 4 million cubic yards of dirt so far to ensure a flat surface pad for future structures. The infrastructure enhancements will continue with the addition of a new highway interchange to facilitate factory-specific traffic and minimize impacts on local traffic and roads. Furthermore, a rail connection will be installed to support shipping needs once production commences.
Several weeks ago, we reached a significant milestone when construction started on the physical buildings, with the first foundations and footings poured in concrete (above).
Over the last three weeks, quite a bit of progress has been made in digging the numerous shallow foundation footings that will eventually support the first vertical support beams (above).
The first shipment of steel arrived on the construction site last week, as shown in the picture above. The main support structures are scheduled to be erected soon, and the first roof structures will be in place by the end of this fall. Our objective is to start production by the end of 2026. In the meantime, we will keep you updated monthly as things progress rapidly over the next two years.

Yes still have the R1T, added an R1S and have a Bronco.
The Scout SUV would be perfect for me but after so many years of waitlists for Teslas, Rivians etc I'm jaded.
Generally adding a couple of years to the hoped for timelines is best. Scout hope to start production in 2025. That doesn't seem at all likely.

4 million cubic yards of earth is simply dumbfounding. Thats roughly 225,000 tri-axle loads. What are the odds they used International tri axles?
2026 First model year is the target, I believe. There will be a reveal later this year.
The timeline seems remarkable and seem to be hitting their marks from finding a state to back them, breaking ground, and now a pretty firm pre-production vehicle for set for reveal in late summer. I concur it seems ambitious, but I'm not one who's able to play Monday morning quarterback as these guys know more about this process than I could ever dream of.
I mentioned in the construction update above, production at end of 2026. I think you would be surprised at how quickly various manufacturers have gotten new facilities built and running in the last few years. Particularly in the southern climates. Lots of things can happen along the way, but lets see how it goes. We have a veteran team of great people managing this project.
