Do you enjoy going topless

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Can we get a modular removable hard top where the sides and/or back glass are removable as well?

I'm picturing separate panels over the driver side, passenger side, and rear area that can either be individually removed or the whole top can be easily removed as one large piece.

Too bad with only 8 votes and no ranking of preferences there's not a whole lot of info here other than 'different people like different things'. I voted for the one described as "Removable hard top with pop-out panels (Jeep style)" since I guess that is the closest thing to my preferences, and I would also pick any of the other options that aren't a fixed roof.

An open-air experience is a big enough factor for me that I would end up cross-shopping an MX-5 and a 4-door rugged compact SUV. I don't have a strong preference for how that is achieved, as long as it is easy to place/remove.

I voted for one piece removable with manual sunroof but I’d rather not have the sunroof. My ideal roof would be one piece with pop-out side windows and a rear window that rolls into the tailgate. I could accept the Jeep (and Bronco) style with the multiple panels but I think that just invites multiple leak opportunities. I have removed and replaced the one piece steel roofs of Scouts and original Broncos many times by myself and it is not hard, if you have a garage. If I didn’t have a garage, I don’t think I would remove the top anyway because I wouldn’t have a place to put it.
I’d also be fine with just a soft top.

Topless is a must! Agree with Bodie who nailed it, but I do really like the lift back window on my Scout II - yes, it would be easier to remove hardtop without it but I love using it to throw things in the back quickly.

Honestly, I would prefer a strong hardtop. Wife has a JLURD and we never remove the hard top. I wish it had a stronger hard top. I upgraded the hard top on my LJ to one that was significantly stronger and love it. I normally run my LJ without the rear seats - I do enjoy the side window access (they both flip up) to the back of the LJ. I have a sleeping/cargo platform in the back - opening both side windows creates a great breeze, but the main thing it makes it super easy to put stuff in the back and grab it out when I need it). That said, I don't think such an option is really practical on a 4 door with fixed rear seats.

I was just watching a Hummer EV review to see what they did wrong/right to make suggestions on this forum. One thing the reviewer did not like is the removable roof panels did not have rain gutters. It was raining during their review, and with the top on and the windows down, water was dripping from the roof right into the interior. I know you probably won't drive in the rain with the windows down, but at a drive-through you need them down at some point and having un-wanted water get into the cabin/on your door would be annoying. Long story short, if they go with removable panels, please include a rain gutter!

Ford just added a border seam on the 2024 soft top Broncos for what I think was the exact same reason. I assumed hard tops would address those things but glad you posted so SM doesn’t miss it for hard or soft tops.
