Are there ways to be involved?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Are there any opportunities for enthusiasts to be a part of the team without full-time employment? As a loyal Scout enthusiast, I would absolutely love to be involved, even if in a limited capacity. My qualifications as an Architectural Designer of factory-built structures fail to fit any opportunities I see listed, and I doubt there will be many in the future. ;)

I'm in the North Bay Area, if there's anything I can do in an official capacity I'd love to offer my time! I wear many hats; metalworking, mechanics, customer service, warehouse logistics... and have owned three different models of Scout. A Terra, Scout II, and now a 68 800 that's my DD.

I'm really excited for what Scout is putting together, vehicle-wise and how they're handling the delicate decision to bring back an iconic American marque that tugs heartstrings in every rural town across the U.S.

I lost count of the number of times I've been politely approached while filling up by others at the gas station who all have a story about the First Scout They Rode In and "Damn if that doesn't bring back memories"...

If Scout needs a Donor to start designing a BEV conversion kit for vintage models, I'd love to donate my rig & be hands on in the process.

I second this.

Also, if Scout Motors would like to start the campaign process and have merch for sale, that'd be shweet.

Absolutely and stay tuned... I've been joking around here that the company is going to go from 20 to 2000 people in 2 years (give or take). Not everything will be full time and we're discussing ways to get the community involved at events, drives, sneak previews and more. Lots of ideas on the table right now.

Having been invovled in a lot of project vehicles in my life and also as a 18 years running SEMA Show attendee, I personally would love to see some form of a crate motor or conversion kit.

Crowd-sourced design, I like the idea as a radical new way to establish a vehicle. You can keep initial overhead low, bounce ideas off a lot of very smart people from a variety of backgrounds, and not have to pay them for it!

I'll shamelessly promote the company for some Swag as well... The current options for Scout merch is pretty cringe. It'll be nice to have a company that more than likely has some resources to get shirts and keychains etc. made.

I got a shirt at a VW dealership years ago that had a Microbus commemorating the life of Jerry Garcia with a tear leaking from the headlight... That's clever marketing. They promoted the living daylights out of the New Beetle 22 years ago as well... I owned two Turbo Beetles, one Color Concept and one Turbo S. While having absolutely no relation to its predecessor mechanically, they really nailed it where it counted compared to other "retro" cars of the era like the Thunderbird and Prowler. VW and their associated companies do a remarkable job of analytics and being able to tug heart strings when they want to, and are able to handle multiple performance versions of the same chassis, as is evident by Porsche.

I agree, man. (disclaimer: self-promotion) That's one of the reasons I created www.Scout80800s.com. I wanted some Scout-specific stuff and, at the time, there wasn't much out there. I had a few ideas and figured I'd throw them out there (yes, it's licensed). Pretty basic stuff really, but just something I enjoy doing. I'm looking forward to the new Scout breathing some life into the available swag.

IH Gear & Super Scout Specialists has have nice stuff.

I always loved VW's marketing, too. Classic.

Lol. We will keep all your great ideas/suggestions in mind. I know chris@scoutmotors just met up with the Scouts West guys and maybe he can talk a bit about that in a separate post. We are reaching out to the community to get involved and connected. Chris on left:

Honestly this is one of the more exciting things for Chris and I. More importantly being able to share that excitement with people and bring them in is where it’s at.

I feel the only reason a person would share something on is forum is because they recognize the lack of experience and the pathetic business structure.
Nobody likes doing the legwork to merely get paid peanuts by some carpetbagging loyalist who is trying to stay afloat while attempting to flip the script and cash in on everyone's two bits. In other words, when shit is so backwards it's "Bassackwards".

When I had my scouts, Binder Planet was a mess. Scouts West was where it was at. Love that they're included(I can't get logged into the site recently for some reason).

I can assure you that the team’s intention here is not to cash in on the community’s two-cents.
Our goal here is to have the community involved enough early on, so that we can do these vehicles right by the community, from the start, and build from there.

We want to include features, styling, and capabilities that will actually be appreciated by this community and future customers, and we want to continue building a community that we’ve found to be incredibly passionate, loyal, and supportive of each other.

Collectively, there is no shortage of knowledge on vehicle manufacturing, design, engineering, business operations, the automotive industry, off-roading, over landing, 4x4’s or hauling on our part. So, it’s not that there's a lack of understanding on how to design, manufacture, and sell vehicles, it’s that we truly respect this community and are welcoming input so that we can make sure we’re doing our best, from the start, to carry on the Scout legacy into the next generation, and do right by the ones who’ve kept the Scout heritage strong.

I have a full deck of cards and a mongoose, yet I'm not interested in wordplay or social intersective manipulation for the sake of your job security.

#1. First off the development and engineering team at VW hasn't advanced in the last year considering the new 2023 Amarok platform is actually the Ford ranger platform designed by the ford engineers.

#2. What has changed at VW development center in Virginia that makes the Scout development team more advanced than those involved in the Amarok project?
