So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

I love the design. The approach angle on the front is great. The rear angle needs help on the pickup. The one draw back on my Rivian is the approach angles. I have only driven one VW product and disliked the quality of the drive. Steering felt loose, suspension felt wobbly, the over all experience discouraged me from looking at any other VW products.
I will put a deposit down as soon as available. Also looking for efficiency, price point and local service. Driving to Boston sucks, I live in VT. A test drive is also top of my list.

Parked next to one of these today. I’ve already commented that I like there yellow brake calibers but never noticed the great detail of the emblems being painted yellow on the sides of the letters. Great little detail
To their credit, they actually thought of this detail to help denote the higher trim levels... See below:


Gen 1 Vehicles

  • Dual-Motor AWD and Performance Dual-Motor AWD have exterior door badges in a monochrome satin silver finish, silver brake calipers and a tailgate badge with a gloss black accent.
  • Quad-Motor AWD vehicles have yellow badging accents and yellow brake calipers.

Hello everyone and welcome to the forum!

My name is Jamie Vondruska and I'm part of the community team here at Scout Motors and will be helping to get these forums going, answer questions to the best of my ability, and overall make sure your stay here is comfortable and fun. Chris@scoutmotors and I will be regularly chiming in on the discussion, posting new Scout news, occasionally cleaning house, and doing our best to participate as much as we can.

As you would imagine, there is a LOT going on behind the scenes when you start a new car company from the ground up and it is incredibly exciting to watch it come together. One of the things our management team wanted to see from the start was a community forum like this one where we can get your feedback, suggestions, and comments and hear your Scout stories. This is a unique situation for any car company and after running one of the largest car forums in the world (VWvortex), I was excited to get involved with Scout. As you can imagine, there are probably still more questions than answers as Scout comes back to life here in the U.S. But we'll do our best to answer them and run all your suggestions by our team. Speaking of the team, they will be actively reading these forums and taking your comments and suggestions to heart, so let us know what you think and you might even see our team members chiming in and asking more questions.

So let's get the ball rolling and talk about the initial Scout concept design sketches that were first released in June of 2022:

The glass line is to high.. need to lower it for better visibility all the way around
 
For me, I think the key ingredients are:
1. Removable top and doors
2. Offroad capable
3. Modern but capturing the distinct look of the Scout
4. Plenty of dealer options/packages
5. Aftermarket customization
6. Affordable base price
no need for removable top and doors as standard ..keep the Scout simple but comfortable with excellent off road capabilities ( dual motors) fast charging, long range with software that is simple to use..

If you mean no need to include a removable top and doors as standard a la SSII, I agree, they should be an option.

I like that idea of bringing back a Super Scout for those who want to run no top and no doors. Many do, but many more do not want or need to run top and doors off. I am in that group that doesn't need or want it. I have a TJ with soft top and half doors. When weather permits I run it safari style with the windows off but the top still on. It is just too hot and rains too often to drop the top for me.
 
The prototypes shown yesterday are awesome! A few thoughts:

1. The retractable Cabana top or glass top roof is a solid choice vs a removable top. A removable top done right, with frameless door glass, would require an extensive roll cage separate structure similar to the Bronco/Wrangler that would add complexity and cost; not to mention wind noise and water leaks. Besides, a removable top can be had on a future 2-door Scout!

2. The optional gas generator range extender (Harvester) is a good, solid decision. Unless you are in remote areas, charging is easy and fast as anyone with a Tesla can confirm. Carrying around the extra weight and maintaining the gas generator may not be practical but it gives people confidence and the ability to go anywhere.

3. Love the breeze-thru retractable rear window on the Terra.

4. And the character lines on the Terra rear bed quarters. Those nods to the original Scout 80/800 are perfect as they reflect styling with the original pickup top. I believe they were only there because IH thought the pickup top take rate would exceed the full-length Traveltop. The opposite occurred.

5. Is the Scout Terra spare tire under the rear overhang? That would otherwise be valuable real estate for the range extender or batteries.

6. Having a 240V outlet is great for a welder; and to hook up your house/barn when the power is out.

7. Rivian may have a slight edge with torque vectoring at each wheel, but I love the robust solid rear axle. Their legal department nixed the tank-turn anyway.

8. Gotta love the front bench seat option. Perfect for COD (Come Over here Darling) right turns. And it transports up to 6 without a third row.

9. Wow - the Terra has a 148.6" wheelbase. That is going to make maneuvering in the woods or making U-turns a challenge (unless you have a steering rear axle like the Hummer / Cybertruck).

10. Curb Weight. These trucks are nearly full-size. The Traveler wheelbase (120.4") has now squeaked past the last Travelall (120"). It looks like the width shown (91.6") must include the mirrors or you will be adding three center marker lights. I do hope the weight can stay well below the Lightning (~6000-6800 lbs).

11. Love both the classic Scout Traveler and Scout Terra names - Well Done! I know resecuring trademarks can sometimes be a challenge.

Overall Im excited about the offerings but I am really disappointed with the designs. What people love about International Scouts is their cute stubby boxiness and these miss the mark. Bring back the round headlights, the rectangular grill, and lose the slash thing through the headlights. The design is like a ram charger had a baby with a Rivian. You’re on the right track, especially with the EREV but the design is too modern and trying too hard. The closer you could get to the design of a late 60’s Scout the better. Please go back to the drawing board.

I’m not quite at this level of disappointed in the design but I do wish it had more retro in it. But I get that there had to be some amount of smoothing for efficiency’s sake. It is going to grow on me though, I can tell. It couldn’t be exactly the same and this is still very good
 
At a distance last night I sensed I could see the IH logo in the headlights. I will say I thought the upper and body lines captures a Scout II resemblance.

whats the possibility of a beefed up Scout option... like the Ford Raptor or Colorado Bison... you could make a really beefed up version and it would sell like crazy... maybe a crazy paint scheme too...

They clearly indicated 6 months ago that they weren’t going retro. scout 2 ended. General generations put this at 7 or 8 gen as timing goes so design is intended to be evolutionary not retro. The OGs on the forum all felt this way early on too but as a new vehicle it is amazing. There are a few details I don’t like but it’s not a deal killer and for 34 years I wished I’d get a new Scout. So I can go $90K and resto a rust bucket or go $65-ish and have an awesome new Scout. To each his own. I

If not a factory option, aftermarket will certainly take advantage of that opportunity.

I like the Dark Green Traveler gas/ev, good for cold climates like here in MN. It is a much cleaner design than the Bronco that I have, it should sell like hot cakes!
