So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
The Traveler is gorgeous. I love the idea of the Harvester option and a must for me. I currently have a last-month-of-production diesel and I take it way off the beaten path. It's my third Scout over the past 40 years. I like a roof rack. A must for me is that I have to be able to tow my Scouts on all fours behind my motor home. GREAT design and I can't wait to get mine!

I get the feeling SM thinks they can rejuvenate the brand where the IH Scout ended simply by going EV.

We'll see.
I don't know. I really like the rebirth of the Scout II. I've had a Scout (various years) in the driveway for more than 40 years. I was excited for Bronco fans when Ford announced the new Bronco. But in my opinion, Ford didn't stay true enough to the size and look of the heritage Bronco. I'm not a fan. But the styling on the new Scout I think is very close to perfect. (I would make the tail lights a little more old school. But that's just me.) The only three options that I would add are (1) a downward looking camera and a screen on the floor so I could look through the rusty holes in the floorboard, (2) a "clunks and rattles" button on the sound system next to CD an AM/FM, and (3) a can of "Old Car Smell" which could come in both Diesel and Gas scents, both with a hint of hot motor oil. (*GRIN*)

All kidding aside, I think they are 100% heading in the right direction with the Traveler. Solid old lines of the Scout II but cool and modern for today. Heck I might buy one just because of the old-school overhead compass!

See you on the trail. I'll be the one with a tow rope, pulling a Jeep. (*grin*)

"Scout.... Because everything else is just a Jeep."

I was blown away by both of your concepts.
Exceeded expectations.

Not a big fan of the split rear tailgate and fold out tire holder.

If everything could open with just one movement that would be ideal, but with the split rear tailgate and the swing out tire carrier, that’s just not possible

If you could make it easy to delete the tire holder, it might make it a little easier to use the rear storage area.

Front end looks amazing. I would’ve liked to see round LED headlights but not a dealbreaker.

Would love to see the price come in under 60k with the 35 inch tires and lockers but I’m sure that is an added option that is going to drive the price up

Read through threads
Tire carrier is option
sM approach was evolution not throw back. Round lights were used because it was the simplest option. These new lights are very nice in person and if rotated it’s the original IH logo as LED

I have read through a lot of the threads. There is a lot to read.
Yes, I understand their approach was evolution and not throwback.
Thanks for the info on the tire carrier.

Honestly they nailed it. The Traveler is....

Absolutely love what I've seen so far, especially the optional bench seat!

Little concerned about the presented overall width and length. Might be too big for normal, daily driver use.

As far as design of vehicles as a whole. It's a great start. I showed my wife a picture of the Terra, wide shot from the side, and her response was "Looks like a truck my grandpa had on the farm."
It definitely hits the old school look and feel, but has a modern edge to it. And I mean edge in attitude and shape. Doesn't look "jelly bean" as it was said. But not too much edge ahem... Cybertruck.

Bolt on frame body, solid rear axle, physical buttons and knobs! These all tell me the SM team knows what their fan base wants.
A smaller wrangler killer.... Maybe in the next series of vehicles, I understand why they'd have to start with more generalized vehicles for everyday needs.

Personally I'm driving a Wrangler now, and have been waiting for the Gladiator to put something in besides the Pentastar V6. But really with the prices continuously going up and up into luxuray vehicle range. I don't think Jeep's parent company, Stellantis really knows what American off road enthusiasts actually want.

I feel that the SM team really gets it and hopefully does well to bring in that 2 door, Wrangler killer.

I just hope they can keep the price down, because in Jeep's case I really think that is killing them. Who wants to spend $70k+ then abuse it on a trail?

To add to the headlight debate...Maybe I missed the point, but wasn't bringing back the Scout intended to build upon a recognizable retro design to stir those emotions for those who loved their Scouts. I bought a brand new and still own a drive-able 1979 Scout II. I like this new design for the most part, however Scoutmotors totally missed the mark by not going with the round headlights. Almost everyone that has ever seen the old Bronco style can recognize the new Broncos today. You really think that anyone but Scout owners or insiders are really going to recognize the front grill and say "Hey, there's the new Scout"? Uh..Uh...Oh..No...Notta!! Maybe after that sleek machine passes by you and you get a good side glance would you think "Hey, that looks like a Scout!" Only the 1980 Scout had square headlights. Go retro or go home. Sorry, but IMHO...change the headlights or change the name.

I think they explicitly said they’re not trying to do a retro design, rather using some design elements and imagining what a modern generation scout might’ve looked like.

Technically from nearly day one Scott Keogh has noted the new Scout is an evolution, not a retro version. The design intent was -hey, Scout would be in its 7th or 8th generation by now so in time the designs would’ve evolved. This is their version of the evolution. Your opinion to like or dislike but based on feedback thus far and growth in members on this forum I’d say the majority likes it.

I wonder how many $100 reservations have been made. Placing a counter on the website would be great!

There’s another unofficial Scout EV forum keeping a list for their members (I was able to add something without joining or following their submission rules and noticed at least one duplicate entry, so I don’t know how tightly they’re checking this for errors). Their list has 998 orders.
