We need an official release from scout about the generator. They've been very quiet. If what I'm hearing about a huge engine with a smaller battery is true, I'm out. It will be just another hybrid.
 
I interpreted this as future upgrades that Scout can do in future manufacturing years. Not changing sheet metal or the structure for the next productive year but changing the guts (engine, fuel and battery size/type) that really matters. Either way very smart to keep things modular for future proofing (whether by the consumer or by Scout)
I interpreted Scott's comments the same way as you.

This has been discussed elsewhere, but it will not be a parallel "hybrid" at all. The confirmation is that there will be enough battery to support a 150 mile range and a 4 cyl motor to keep that battery charged for up to a total of a 500+ mile range. In a hybrid, the battery powers a motor which turns the wheels, the engine is also capable of directly turning the wheels via mechanical connection and when maximum power is needed, both can provide dual power to the wheels at the same time. In Scout Harvester, the engine will not be mechanically connected to the wheels, so it will not be capable of directly turning the wheels. The Harvester engine will generate electricity which will be delivered to the electric motors which will turn the wheels. Not like any hybrid.

EDIT: Added "parallel" - Not like any OTHER hybrid currently on the market.

Not to be too pedantic, but the Harvester (and other EREVs) are in fact also referred to as hybrids. They're just "series hybrids" rather than "parallel hybrids." This article is helpful with terminology and diagrams to see and understand the differences involved.

I should have been more specific: Not like any OTHER hybrid currently on the market.

I think we have about 2 years before this will be available to purchase …. So I am not sure the reason to rush. Other hybrids are parallel, this will a series hybrid. I can tell you it will be a small under 2.0L 4 cylinder non turbo engine. 150 miles is the sweet spot for pure EV when you are also lugging around a fuel tank and generator. Unless you want to spend $100k a vehicle. The nice thing is that if Scout doesn’t have what you want (and the market deems important) in year 1, the modular design will allow for future upgrades—perhaps with a 1.21 gigawatts solid state battery.

I'm all-in for BEV, but curious when ICE will need to power up to extend that 150 by 350 to 500. Figure it will be well before that smaller battery is exhausted at 150 miles - maybe startup midway at 75? Or perhaps it needs to be running at the outset from full charge?
I believe it is possible that the generator can immediately provide charge to the battery. Enough to extend the range 350 miles more.
 
Interesting that this was hinted at, selfishly I was hoping for a two door, removeable top but understand the demand may not be there. Seems the interest is in the larger SUV with 3rd row options.
You're probably right about demand. A larger three-row has more potential for sales. Hopefully they'll still do a two-door. I believe Wrangler two-door sales account for 10 to 15% of the total. Bronco 2-doors are around 30%.
 
Only 60% of the battery is actually usable. You normally don't charge over 80% on the road, nor let it draw below 20%. So your 150 mile range becomes 90 miles. Not bad in the city but on the road the generator will kick in every road trip because it will be too convenient to top up the tank before the battery. So your start day with 90 miles on battery and finish with 350 miles on gas. So this just becomes another hybrid. Mostly gas powered. We need 350 mile battery range (200 mile usable) with 40 max hp generator. Battery weight will no longer be an issue in 2 years. Lighter ones are coming. Parallel or series is not relevant. Does anyone else hate this spellcheck?

I suspect the stated range of the battery is based on typical 20-80%. They are saying 350 or 150 +350(gas). Time will tell
