Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
With the Ramcharger coming out a full year or two ahead of the Scouts, I'm not sure that we'll see Scout Patenting it.

Unless of course, they do it in some materially different way (which they might), but afaik, that probably won't be the case? But of course, if they can, and then license it, then yes, lets do that.
The only thing that worries me about the Ramcharger is that they keep pushing it’s production back and that it’s price tag is super expensive, which makes my believe that it will be yet another fail for Ram and Stellantis.

Doesn’t matter. It’s still not common in the Automotive industry. They could easily patent the technology. If they weren’t going to make something that was improved from his patent, then why would new R&D be need and why would it be taking so long for the information on it to come out on the Harvester?

And the Patton Locomotive was a standard hybrid not an EREV.
Chevy Volt
Fisker Karma
BMW i3 REX
Cadillac ELR

are some examples of EREVs that predate Scout Motors

All EREVs that ate discontinued. So that still makes my point that its not common in the industry.

And some of those mentioned are just standard plug in hybrids.
Your argument is centered around patents which of course are all about those who do it first. I'm no expert on those cars, but if there were patents to be filed for this technology..and that's a big if..they probably have them.

Also all of those are EREVS not PHEVs.

I see a valid point with @THil08 comment. There may be a new approach to the function/mechanics of the system that’s unique enough to patent. They may create an amazing new way that puts its function leaps and bounds ahead of any other and slapping a patent on it gives SM more time to lead the way with a superior product. Mazda was considering a hybrid using the Wankel-if it does pan out they can patent that as a unique approach that prevents other so maybe SM will develop a whole new EREV approach. Never say never.
Just read yesterday that China just doubled the run time of their fusion reactor which is a HUGE leap forward for that tech.
SM could figure something out that gets 800 miles range-not likely but they’ve hired a lot of smart people with a completely new approach to EVs so I’ll hold out for hope on this tech

For sure if they find a better or different way to do EREV then yes patents should be filed, however the discussion seemed to be based around just EREV itself unless I missed something, hence my/others comments.
