Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
FYI there’s a new story under the stories page about the traveler.
It may help answer questions or verify answers some of us have posted here on the forum.
Personally I learned the traveler Frunk will hold a set of golf clubs, duffle bags and a cooler. I’m not really a golfer but it does help me visualize how many bodies I can fit in there and with the integrated cooler it extends the travel time for said bodies (kidding-for those taking this too seriously)

My dad just sent me a copy of an article in the IH Red Power Magazine about the new Scouts. It starts with a review of the originals and has a long portion from one of the designers for IH and Navistar (Dick Hatch) going over what he likes and likes less about the new designs. It was really interesting. I've tried uploading it here but not sure if it will work (or if it is ok - if not I will take it down!)

Great article. This was a large file but my phone finally downloaded it. Overall Dick’s commentary was favorable what is what we had heard at the reveal.
Thanks for sharing this article. Was a good read!

Thanks for sharing, I had the opportunity to meet Dave Dickmeyer, original clay modeler who did the first Scout while at the reveal and one thing that stuck out to me was how mesmerized he was with the body lines of the original vs the one revealed. This was a great article, thanks again.

Not sure if this is anywhere else here yet. But posting it just in case.

I thought it was really interesting seeing the scale of the earth moving going on to build the factory site.

They had only finished something like ~12% of the site grading before they started construction of the first building. They've already moved ~12million cubic yards, and have another 12 million left before they finish. And at the portion they were watching, they were moving 75,000 yds^3 of material per day.

Then a bunch of construction stuff I don't know about (models of excavators), but the highlight was "lots of excavators with 8-10yd buckets, and over 100 trucks".

Good stuff though :).

Well if nothing else they clarified it’s a VW engine for anyone still stinking they should source another manufacturer 🤣
I can't recall ever seeing answered the question: will the Harvester variants have the same water fording clearance as the EV-only variants? i.e. given the engine's likely location right around the height of the axle, wouldn't it have to be sealed and snorkeled somehow?

I've never seen it addressed. A great point though. I'm sure they're working on it.

It’s Scout if we have learned everything we have learned that they have a solution for everything and everything.

That was always the assumption, though I don't see any definitive clarification. Like much of the internet press that's a mix of quotes and assumptions.

The relevant non-clarification:

The specific engine Scout will use for range extender duty is still under wraps. However, since Scout is under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, the engine will likely come from a parts bin somewhere in Wolfsburg.

Basically still just the reasonable assumption it was before.

Doubters can keep doubting. :D

I thought Scout said that they would be building their own engine since the body on frame construction it wouldn’t be able to fit a VW engine easily. Or at least that’s what I was told by jamie.

Not to throw Jamie under the bus.

Perhaps that means modifying existing engines? It's pretty expensive to design and build an engine from scratch.
