Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
The Rivian CEO just did an interview on the Decoder podcast.

Among other things he explained why Rivian does not support CarPlay; arguing that the user would need to jump out of CarPlay to open the frunk.

To me this highlights the problem of not having physical buttons for things like opening the frunk and instead having to navigate through touchscreens or away from a screen you are actively using (whether it’s a CarPlay app or something else).

Also as an excuse for not supporting CarPlay this is a very weak argument because even if buttons have to all be on touchscreens there is no reason why CarPlay can’t exist alongside other screens or UI. Or why certain controls couldn’t also be inside a CarPlay app.

The new CarPlay allows for more complex composited screens so Now Playing data and controls for a podcast could exist right alongside controls for the car. But really what’s needed most is more physical buttons.

Opening the frunk should not only be a physical button but there should probably also be a purely mechanical way to open it in case the electrical system is completely shut down.

Didn’t Rivian have an early software bug where users couldn’t open the center console until the software was updated?

Any system that can be paralyzed by a software flaw needs to be redesigned with redundancy and other safeguards. Physical buttons should be considered essential.
I guess he has not heard of wireless Apple Carplay. :)

Well I don’t like this date !!

This is one of the best videos to come from the reveal event.

I learned a lot of new information not covered elsewhere.
Also some great interviews with the Scout Community.

This segment was great. Take time to watch because I was at reveal and she still got info we didn’t get to see.
I saw on her video the outlets on the Terra are in the inside sidewall of bed area. I didn’t realize that. She also covered some good tech stuff and future proofing and planning.
Check it out. Thanks @Chaparral for posting this or I probably wouldn’t have watched. There are some absolutely terrible blog posts from the event which turned me off so glad it was posted here.

Agree that this is one of the best YT coverage of the event. It also includes some in-depth look at the public-private deals for the manufacturing plant that ultimately made this possible. It took some real three-dimensional chess of market analysis and deployment, design, engineering, production planning, government tax incentives, etc etc. all to come together. If the pre-Nov 1 reserve orders hit numbers close to what I think they are, all the folks at SM are deservedly popping champagne this weekend.

Edit: another post from the same channel:
A recap but with some insights that I do not remember from the other segment, such as SM needs to capture a little less than 2% of the SUV market to be successful.
