Dimensions

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I don’t think the width value is correct.

I measured the height and width of the vehicle drawing precisely with calipers and found the width is 1.127 times the height. If the height measurement is correct at 76.3 the width is actually about 86.0 in (with mirrors because they do not project).

Hopefully, we’ll get some clarification.

Attendees at the event didn’t seem to think the vehicles were absurdly huge, just “midsized”.
To be fair, I wouldn’t say mid sized thinking small. The overall size is similar to a Tahoe but the cuts and shape make it feel less. That said, it was never parked in a parking space so hard to say when you are in the open looking over 100 acres of grounds and trees.
That said, it still felt good proportionally

The indicated dimensions are way too big for me. After the novelty wears off a bit, it'll be a PITA to live with day-to-day.

If this thing really is the size of a hummer, and it appears to be, I'm out. Not good for family. Not easy to live with. Not a good neighbor. Not a good Scout.

It is hard to tell exactly what is being measured, though. The drawings use a perspective projection, which makes the parts that are closer to the viewer larger (wider and taller) than the parts that are further away. If they had used an orthographic projection, you would have been able to measure bits of the drawing (like tire hight) in order to double-check the sizes. The perspective projection looks a lot better, though.

Wondering how this will compare in real life to my 2021 4dr Bronco (sold it a year ago though...) but that vehicle never felt too big. What's really interesting me is the front-row bench seat - sure would be nice to fit six in a pinch for a short ride. I have my deposit down, but also have a deposit for a Rivian R2. Let's see who gets here first!

May help but people give a little perspective to size

Good point. Since there is some perspective the front view drawing should make the roof appear relatively low vs the width because the front of the vehicle is closer and the roof a bit further back. That means my earlier measurements and calculation of an 86.0 in width (based on the height to width ratio and assuming the height measurement is correct) was too large. I now think the width is less than 86.0.

Anything over 80.0 in must have the extra lights required on a wide vehicle and I didn’t notice these on the prototypes they showed.

I hope they will show us one in a parking space soon so we can get a good idea of the size. And at some public space so it’s a pretty representative size space

The Cybertruck is a mid sized truck. The long bed Tacoma is longer than it and a lot taller. And only 2 inches shorter in width.

I hope these dimensions are correct because I'm sick of these tiny electric trucks. This is America for goodness sake!
I'm with ya on these tiny electric trucks. We need bigger options and it looks like the Terra is one of the first to do it. If you look at the Terra's dimensions its almost identical to a F-150 Crew Cab with the 5.5ft bed, actually Terra has 3" longer wheelbase

Some of the 'reviewers' videos I've seen from the reveal event suggest the vehicles are not as large as the posted dimensions. But, of course, it's impossible to know unless you're standing next to one, yourself (barring someone from SM verifying the dims).

Honestly, I put 2 reservations in (b/c I couldn't decide) before I saw the dimensions. That is a huge machine.
For anyone that spends anytime at all driving in or near a city, no thanks.
For anyone that spends anytime at all driving down narrow off-road trails, no thanks.
I'm definitely reconsidering if the dimensions stay the same.

Sounds like we need some actual clarification. Those stats are on par with a Chevy Tahoe!

Yes they are. 98% of buyer market wants family hauling and storage. Those of us here are generally Scout fans/enthusiasts but very small fraction will travel the Rubicon in a new $65K vehicle. As battery tech improves and needs less space I’m sure a smaller model will arrive. But having seen it in person it is AMAZING!

I was there (forgot my tape measure) and I really think the website may be incorrect. It didn’t seem that big in person. It seemed the be about the size of a Rivian R1S. I’ll see what I can find out.

FYI, the tires shown on the concepts are BFG AT KO3 35x12.50R20

I made the comment last night at reveal-cars have progressively grown larger so it may be too big for some. That said, I liked this to the mini cooper. The new models are 1-1/2 times the size of originals but the details, references and proportions make it feel “right” and I think the traveller achieves this same thing.
I joked to the group that traveled to reveal today that as soon as I got home from airport I got out of our 3-row pilot and measured garage depth to be sure traveller with exterior tire would fit. I have like 26” to spare. It will be too large for some buyers

My career is architecture and development. Parking spaces as a standard (by zoning/municipalities) is generally 108” wide x 216” (18’) or 240” (20’). So in shorter spots backing in will be preferred if you opt for spare carrier. Without carrier the traveller should fit in 99% of parking spaces. There are always exceptions

Ah ok, thank you for clarifying! I’m use to the mid sized SUV world coming from a 4th Gen 4runner, Scout II and a family member having the new 4 door Bronco. The size is not a deal breaker by any means and I have a reservation in place. I thought it would be more similarly sized to the Rivian R2. I can’t wait to see more details as it gets closer to production!
