Post Reveal Suggestions

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

To the Scout Team!

Congrats on the reveal! you have created a wonderful product and a lot of thought has gone into it, that is clear! I love the design, the features, and the fact that it's an EV! and the range extender was a great idea! I had a few thoughts to share as a fellow automotive engineer...

  1. it looks like there is a start/stop button. I'd highly consider removing it and using the Tesla and Silverado EV strategy of using the brake for on and closing the door for off.
  2. Can you share the width of the vehicle without mirrors? Scout was historically a smaller 1/4ton type vehicle and now it seem it's more half ton size. I expected it since it's an EV, but if it's much more than 80" wide, that makes it hard to take off road or on trails and even on city streets. Rivian width is good. My current Ranger Raptor is good but pushing it sometimes.
  3. what about the bed width? is it over 48" wide between the wheel wells?
  4. I didn't see any cameras or sensors on the vehicles. USS for parking, Rain sensor for wipers, long range and short range radar, cameras, etc. Please don't do the Tesla strategy, it's terrible!
  5. Please have a pet mode of sorts! and a camping mode
  6. please have a sentry mode for the cameras
  7. please have a built in dash cam
  8. I noticed the suspension is listed as air springs, but in the reveal it had coil springs. My Ranger Raptor has coil springs with active shocks and I think it's great. Not sure the complexity/cost for air is worth it.
  9. Large cup holders for large hydroflask style water bottles is a must.
  10. Large mirrors for good visibility. It's worth it, especially for the Terra which will be towing. or a tow mirror option!?
  11. Please don't get too fancy with the seats, make really good, soft and comfortable seats with good adjustability and ergonomics. Align it well with the dead pedal and steering wheel and gauge cluster. Great job on the luxury bench seat option too! I love it!
These are all things I found to be universally liked in vehicles, not necessarily specific things I want.

Thanks for reading and if you need any lead calibration engineers, senior suspension design engineers, or vehicle dynamics engineers, let me know! I have lots of experience in all those areas and am currently a lead suspension design engineer!

Thanks,
Ian

Not to add another mode, but you got me thinking about tailgating and the vehicle shutting off automatically every 20 minutes. A Tailgating mode that didnt shut off would be nice to avoid this issue when enjoying music.
And if my George Foreman is plugged in I don’t want a shut down. Then I lose the two sides cook 🤣. Great idea though

Not sure if this is the best place for this post. But a few other thoughts that I have had after watching a bunch of various reveal videos.

I see a lot of buttons and switches. Don't know what they do. At least one reveal video gave a close up and I rather questioned the labels on them (looked like seat adjustment switches on the dash?). I understand the normal place for off road switches on the lower part of the dash can not be reached due to the console - but aux/acc switches are often overhead - do any unused accessory switches exist? I am sure buyers might want to add accessory lighting - be it overhead, or rock lighting, wheel lighting (actually nice if you have to change a tire in the dark) or those questionable light whips... I know I had to add a complete extra switch center to my LJ - it controls the air compressor, front and rear lockers (independently), and the pneumatic sway bar disconnect (nice when I am driving and go from on to off road on the fly).

Likewise, not sure what the 18" display really does and why I would want it. I live with a 5" display now and it seems to do everything necessary. With the digital instrument cluster - most of what that 5" display does could easily be done on the instrument cluster. Personally I have no problem removing every radio control from the reach of my passengers - MY truck, MY radio, keep your grubby fingers off my radio.

Will there be an option for manual seats? I wish I could neuter the smart seats in my F250. I don't want the seat moving every time I get in the truck - or moreover every time I get out. I put stuff in the back seat, only to get crushed when I get out of the truck and it acts as a good waitstaff and pulls the seat out from under me. Not to mention when it decides that when I am leaning over the seat to reach something in the console and it tilts the seat all the way back because my knee hit the control pad. My VW has manual seats - and honestly, they work perfectly 100% of the time - that is, they don't move unless I make them move. Funny part, the F250 seats are supposed to recall the key settings. That feature rarely works - half the time I get in and it goes to a random setting. I have to stop the truck, put it in park, then hit one of the presets (it does not matter which one - I have all 3 set to ME).

Yes I am a bit selfish when it comes to my vehicle. My wife acts like it is the end of the world if I ask to borrow her Rubicon - but somehow thinks borrowing my truck is an intrinsic right. At least she does not ask to borrow my LJ and change all the settings. Does not help that one of the last time she borrow my truck she played with some buttons she should not have and resulted in a $4500 repair bill - just a small part of why I don't want a sun roof.
