Camper Shell

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Also for those who are planning to have a camper shell, optional heat ducts in the bed (to take advantage of the car's battery) would be game changer. This would eliminate the need for a propane or diesel heater and save much appreciated space in the camper.

I have had several vehicles with hard top camper shells. For sleeping, a 6.5' cap is MUCH nicer than a 5.5' cap - to the extent that the 5.5' cap is almost useless for sleeping. You can go over the sides of the bed to get the width necessary for a mattress - but then for most slide in campers you have to raise your roofline as well (there just is no headroom between the top of the bed and the existing truck roofline). I really don't expect Scout to make a flatbed or even a bed with lower side walls to make it viable (but that could be an interesting option). Google UTE canopies.

Using existing bed lines up to the just over the wheel wells. A company could make a "bed" that is chopped just above the wheel wells (essentially a flat bed - but with the existing truck lines and body color on the lower half). They could put in a silde out tray between the wheel wells (so no room is really lost there). I have a compact flat bed - it works quite well for me.

100%!!! Color matched and intentionally designed by the Scout team would be phenomenal. Too many camper tops are ugly, don’t fit well, and/or skimp on quality material.
Or at least have SM design and outsource design to a company that can focus on a better finished product since it’s their specialty, so-to-speak

I did note elsewhere that the Terra’s wheel well tops don’t seem as tall as most pick ups so a low trained platform would clear the wells in the bed space and allow a little more headroom. No dimensions on this yet but a couple of us discussed at event

It does have both 120V and 240V in the bed so you could use an electric heater... Just a thought

Yes! Thinking back to when a lot of third-party peripherals for the first couple of generations of iMacs were designed to compliment the case design. Loved it. 😍

Automotive accessory design deserves to not look like it belongs in another decade or at least look sort of timeless. That bothers me about camper caps: why has nobody ever taken another stab at their design so they look less like something that you only think about when you see them in true crime documentaries and instead think fondly or longingly of them because they look badass?

We need a color matching “adventure” cap and camping top. My wish list would also allow the rear window to be dropped for easy access to both cabins. I do not want a run of mill cap to ruin the fantastic job of the design team.
The reveal and the current Scout Motors website for the Terra show the ability to roll down the rear window, if that’s what you mean. Not sure if it’s standard or not at this point, of course.

Exactly, Chris Benjamin and his team’s design language needs to carry through on the accessories.

I'm planning to use my terra for surf adventures so a pop up camper that is consistent with the styling would be incredible.

My wishlist in case someone at Scout ends up working on this:

- Add some extra width like a Tune M1 camper, with side hatches for gear access and a glass rear hatch for visibility through rearview mirror.
- Something hardsided like an alaskan camper that's able to handle 4 seasons
- A pass through window that lines up with the rear window of the cab and allows for climbing into cab and storing long objects like skis and surfboards within the locked camper instead of the roof.
- Queen bed over cab
- Surfboard/gear racks and lots of solar on roof
- Lighting and ventilation
- Access to outlets in bed for electric heating, cooking, AC, etc.

Alternatively a mid gate with a (solar panel covered?) tonneau cover would be pretty cool too.

YES! I love all of this (its pretty much what GFC did with the Rivian), BUT I hope Scout doesn't tackle it... This is a job for the aftermarket.
