Basic or All Decked Out?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I am kind of mixed. Certain features I want decked out. Others, I care a lot less about. This is fairly consistent with my last 4 vehicle purchases. I don't care that much about luxury - I do care about functionality.

I want good driver assistance features. Other than that, I will probably splurge on their best off road options with the best range. Meanwhile, fabric seats - no problem. If soundproofing is optional - YES, I do want that.

One issue I have had in the past is being forced to get a sun roof I did not want, in order to get all the other stuff I did - it gets depressing.

Before the reveal, I would have answered Basic with solid off-road options because I was hoping for an electric Bronco that looked like a Scout. But since the roof doesn't come off, it's a different kind of vehicle and fits a different role for me. I still want one but now I want the full lux (which is likely what they showed at the reveal because why would you show less than your best?). I want those leather ventilated (and cooled pretty please) seats with that interior.

I’m fine going pretty basic. However I have grown accustomed to things like power windows, power locks, adaptive cruise, and cameras everywhere. Some of these luxuries would be great if I can afford them. However, must-haves for me would be all of the off road goodies that make it as capable as possible since I plan to USE the thing off pavement.

I'm towards the luxury side of things. I want comfy seats, good technology (thinking ability to watch Netflix and Youtube TV etc.), good driver assistance for highway driving and cameras including built in dash cam for security, memory seats for at least 2 drivers (ideally just app based so it can remember all the settings depending on who's driving). At the same time, I still want some good off road ability but without compromising the on-road driving too much.

I am definitely an all luxury, fully loaded, give me all the options that I can get but for a reasonable price but I also want athleticism and power too. Some people like super sporty vehicles that can zip and race all over town but sacrifice comfort. Some like luxurious floaty cars that are like driving a mattress down the road but sacrifice power and agility. Some people like rugged and boxy vehicles that are capable of climbing mountains and wadding in rivers but sacrifice both luxury and sporty agility and power. I will alway want a vehicle that combines it all: power, sportiness, athleticism or in this case, rugged and brawn abilities but also have refinement, luxury, high tech, practicality and comfort styling and amenities. Being able to combine all those things into one vehicle is what makes it the perfect vehicle in my opinion.
I think you just wrote the perfect country song. (*grin*) I sure hope you're right. It just seems that ]that perfect car is a bit elusive. I am looking forward to seeing one of these babies in person.

I'm old school, but now the new Scout Traveler has me conflicted. Typically I would lean towards functionality with less bells and whistles. But the features on this bad boy are pretty cool. How about you? Do you want just a rough and rugged more-basic rig or do you want a luxury vehicle you can take over 12,000 foot passes?
I plan to order a loaded Traveler for myself and a work level Terra for my business.

I will add to this that you may be able to have a bit of both if you opt for air suspension. I e owned and currently own a vehicle equipped with air suspension and they often include different settings for sport, comfort, entry (hope Scout has this) and max height.

I'll be going fully loaded. For how much new vehicles cost and how long I keep my vehicles it's worth it to just invest up front. Nothing worse than buying something really expensive and having regrets that you didn't get an option that would have been really nice to have...
You might be right. But sometimes I feel like we want to recreate our Living Rooms on four wheels. I'll stay home if I want to sit in a plush recliner and watch movies with a booming sound system. I also don't need a full work-at-home off-road office for my phone and computer. But maybe I'm too old-school and it's time to take some night classes! (*grin*)

I'm really not a home body and like taking road trips, sometimes extended distance and time. On these trips, I'm in my vehicle sometimes all day to get to a specific location. Or I'm off-road and in my vehicle all day. Perhaps my use case isn't your use case, but I do like being really comfortable in my vehicle and want to enjoy the modern amenities that are available.

I am spoiled. There are things I must have. Adaptive Cruise, heated steering wheel and heated seats are the niceties that I must have. I also must have all of the solid off-road goodies. 35s would be nice...but tires can be replaced and I'd want to go 37s anyway so I likely wouldn't spend the money on them as an option. Skids and sliders would be nice to have from the factory because the aftermarket will take time to catch up and it's going to be costly in the beginning so I would opt for those from the factory.

I'll be shopping Scout Traveler vs Rivian R2 and reality is it'll be a well equipped R2 vs a base Scout so what's offered will be key. Note I'm okay doing this because with Scout it'll be an "everything you need, nothing you don't" mantra so having less kit is fine as long as I'm allowed to equip the essentials like a hitch, 4WD, and real colors. If they gatekeep stuff like this behind expensive packages like VWoA's S, SE, SEL trims then I'll probably step out.

Wait! There's no "Out" in Scout! Oh... Wait a minute....

I've thought I wanted my next vehicle to be full luxury until I started to price them out - then I wind-up back at basic trim levels with some niceties.

I do realize the importance of marriage-saving dual climate control... so I won't ever go lower than that trim lol.

I used to enjoy adding quality purpose-built aftermarket products- so I'd lean to more economical packages and improve over time (especially stereo, wheels, suspension, etc.). Now that I have less time but more funds, I'll probably pick more factory niceties - and vehicles are just including more these days.

We'll see what's included in the different Scout packages as more info comes out. One thing is pretty universal though- I don't know if I've ever seen a stock wheel that I liked, so those will be in the budget.

I’d say I’m somewhere between basic w/niceties a luxury (if I can afford). Can you add another item
MID-LEVEL WITH NICETIES

Having had the opportunity to see it at reveal I just know I loved the Traveler AS-IS. So hoping that wasn’t the full blown luxury but if so then I want Luxury 🤣
Haha! I feel ya on this. I think that's where I'm at too. I'd like to have some of the extra luxuries as long as I can afford'em, but to save my wallet I'm probably going to slide more in the basic direction. 😅

And if the Traveler we saw on stage is the basic version, that's certainly luxurious enough for me!

I’d like to believe that to for my wallets sake but even I’m realistic to know what I saw wasn’t feasible at $60K. Just the leather they used was high end-it didn’t show that way in photos but seeing it in person it was nicer that the leather chair we bought years ago because I wanted a quality leather chair. Only nicer they could used would’ve been ostrich or A5 Waygu beef hide 🤣
