Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. Drive home from the dealership was similar for us. 1 pedal or some other regen setting takes some getting use to. Maybe a day before it was no longer noticeable. Now I can hit my mark without breaks 95% of the time.

Around town, love 1 pedal. Out on the freeway lvl 0.
What is lvl 0. Im driving a 2013 Wrangler with aftermarket CarPlay and backup camera and thats pretty much it. Ha!

Probably depends on the vehicle.
In our car lvl 0 basically drives like the standard ICE vehicle we’re all use to. There’s some very slight regen when you take your foot off the accelerator, but generally you coast.

As you increase, on our car there’s paddles, the regen increases and as you take you’re foot off the accelerator and the car slows down to varying degrees.

All the way up to 1 pedal driving, where if you take your foot off the accelerator, the vehicle will come to a stop. It brakes somewhat aggressively. Not like stomping on the brakes, but you can definitely feel it. Takes some time to get a feel for making it smooth. Now that I’m use to it, I love it, and get slightly annoyed in my truck when I have to actually brake.

I would put level 0 as a manual transmission car with the clutch in or transmission out of gear - no slowing at all. Unless it detects something ahead, my Audi EV is at level 0 (pure coasting) when I let off the accelerator. It has paddles (and the brake pedal) to engage regen.

That’s a good analogy. And I’d add that 1 pedal driving is like being in first gear, but without rpm limits. You can go as fast as you want but when you take your foot off the gas it can slow down very suddenly.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced driving stick in an older car where the brakes don’t quite work, right? Or is that just me?

I have only test driven EVs. Never owned one. When I was test driving the Rivian my husband said I was making him car sick. I’m assuming it was me not having a constant steady pressure on the gas pedal. How long does it take to get used to the differences in an EV versus an ICE?
My partner took about two weeks to get used to 1pd. Before that, she drove with 1pd off. I'm visiting family who has a Chevrolet Bolt and it has 1pd turned off. I dislike it, but won't turn it on because I don't want to forget and leave 1pd on when I leave. It's been a little over a week and I've mostly rehabituated to no 1pd.

If you are having a hard time in a Rivian and you are new to Regen and 1-pedal driving, it is likely either related to the drive mode you are in (which impacts pedal sensitivity), or the Regen setting. You can reduce the amount of regen directly, or switch to a different drive mode with a lower preset and less pedal sensitivity (like snow mode). Super easy and simple.

My advice for new drivers would be to use a lower regen setting to start (if that is available in your vehicle), and adjust accordingly as you get more used to it. Once you are used to it, you will likely realize how much energy is lost to friction brakes and how inefficient ICE vehicles are compared to EV's.
