Switches and Knobs?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
They did say they were shooting for being able to operate the switches and knobs with gloves on, so a bit bigger and easy to handle.

I am so enamored of the stitching on the steering wheel. This is such a beautiful palette. Orange is one of my favorite colors and it always looks so striking against gray. 🍊
It’s a burnt orange to boot. I actually talked to the designer because the spool of thread was part of the display and was more of a dark copper color (go figure) 😀

If buttons get more people into EV's then job well done. Clearly there are those that prefer them and Scout has acknowledged their heritage and addressed that by preserving buttons in a clean, tasteful implementation.

I would imagine that early adopters with Scout heritage will likely prefer them disproportionately. Once that niche is satisfied, I'm just not sure to what degree the general public will be interested. If I could shave $500 or more off the purchase price by not having them, I'd choose to save the money. Perhaps future models will option them out and if you want them, you can pay for them.

One doesn't have to fully embrace the spirit and ethos of all things Scout to find their vehicles check enough other boxes to be short listed when purchasing a new truck or suv. Wide appeal will be required to attain volume production as I'm sure Scout realizes all too well.

Pretty sure AI Voice controls will eventually become the industry defacto standard but doesn't rule out the continued use of buttons for those that still want them. The overhead locker switches are great. They look like they belong there and add to a bit of a cockpit feel.

Scout has put a lot of thought and effort into their designs and have revealed what appear to be very solid contenders.
I respect your opinion. I just have the opposite one.

Despite working in an industry, and being in an age group that "should" be very interested in them, I can't image a feature that I would desire less in my vehicle than AI voice controls.

Too many times while driving, do I not want to talk while I adjust something (kids are sleeping in the back during a road trip, don't want to interrupt my passengers conversation/story, what if I lost my voice, or simply don't want to talk because I don't feel like it, etc). I also don't want to allow my children in the backseat to control any facet of the vehicle with their voice (remember the reason why rear seat window locks exist... now imagine if they can shout at the car to make it do a lot more than open windows).

The recent Rivian UX designer recently announcing that they will be "waging war" against buttons, greatly saddens me, as I had been considering a Rivian R2S previously.

To be honest, I have similar issues with touchscreen controls. Any context sensitive input is a distraction (ie, if you have to click through on screen buttons to get there, you're distracting from driving, as even if you memorize where the buttons are, you have no idea if you clicked on them correctly without looking, and might accidentally be adjusting something else).

Now, I don't need 100 buttons, and I'm fine with various methods of control. I just don't want voice to the only way to do things, nor do I want touchscreen to be the only way.

And that's not even getting into the giant rabbit hole of "I don't want my vehicle actively listening to me constantly because I have reservations about security and data, much like what happens with Google Homes and Amazon Alexas" issue.

I'm not sure what the overhead buttons/toggles will do (particularly in the Terra with a glass roof), but I am way more excited about overhead controls / toggles than I am about all of the toggles that sit under the screen. I love that they put toggles overhead by the compass - well done.

Me too. Make's them seem really serious - time for some real piloting. They should put the "engines start" up there.

I think the overheads were described as drive train changes and drive modes but don’t hold me to that

Missed that at reveal. Were the uppers for sway bar disconnects, etc…. I swear somewhere I heard the upper buttons/toggles were related to drive actions/modes but perhaps I’m mis-remembering

Sounds familiar to me too. They had to go there because of the bench seat option. Otherwise I guess they would’ve been on the console.

I hope they make the labels for the switches easy to read. I love my current Toyota Tundra, but the toggle switches are black, surrounded by black with small labels that are challenging to see.
