South Carolina Scouts! Your voice is heard: Direct sales bill gets a hearing on Wednesday!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
If the motion fails then I see no reason why Scout can't just take a page out of Tesla's book and sell them anyway with some added steps for legal purposes.
1. Showroom with restriction (can't talk price, can't facilitate sale)
2. Online order which is processed out of state (Ex: Scout HQ in VA)
3. Customer files paperwork with local DMV
4. Car is delivered to customer w/temp tags of state where it was processed (VA for example)
5. Customer drives by local dealer association office with middle finger raised.

Same steps could be done for factory delivery center. Did I say delivery center? I mean brand experience center that doesn't facilitate any sales but does have an open parking lot policy for customers who have already purchased their vehicles and selected that parking lot as the delivery point.
I like #5

Reversed Hand With Middle Finger Extended to you NADA & SCADA!

Great job to Cody and those speaking in favor of the bill. All points were valid and what stood out was that this was not about just Scout Motors, it was giving SC consumers choice. On the other hand, those speaking against the bill were all about their families and their entitlement due to their successful growth only briefly mentioning how they know what SC consumers need and want. The dealers say they take care of the customers. If that is true, they should have no concern over this bill and let us consumers decide.

The two committee members at the end (Carl Anderson and Chris Wooten) are clearly aligned with the dealerships. Likely, several others have been schmoozed by their district dealerships. The logical outcome was presented well by those in favor of the bill, but apparently logic has no place in politics.

Here's the story given by Rep. Wooten at the end. His daughter broke down so he calls the Toyota of Easley dealership and they sent a crew to pick her up and got her back to Clemson safely. That's awesome. So how did that phone call go? Hello, Ryan, this is representative Chris Wooten, you know I'm one of the committee members on H.3777. My daughter is broke down, can you guys take care of her, I'm much too busy fighting this Scout Motors push for direct to consumer sales here at the state house.

IF...I ever buy from a SC dealership in the future there is going to be a few addendums on that sales agreement where the dealership will drop everything they are doing if I have a break down and deliver me a free car and get me safely home!

Ok, this is yet another dead horse commentary. We've heard all the arguments over and over. @J Alynn ...rant over. See what you did to me? 😂 😂

I have no words. I’m very hurt 🥲

It was the hearing comment by Rep. Anderson near the end that his "dealerships were crying" that got me stoked. I apologize, I shouldn't have blamed you for the rant. That was too strong, I know.

Dont worry @J Alynn has all of us ranting lol.
We all have our days and our hot topics.
What interested me more on the opposed side were:

-A Chevy dealership-REALLY-I know some love them but I’ve only ever had nightmare problems. Because they’re so renown for amazing electric vehicles. These guys acted like the state was gonna prevent them from selling altogether.
-where was support from Porsche dealerships and Audi dealerships-why does VW feel they are entitled to the franchises?
-the representative talking about his GMC-good ol’ boys BS.
-and the one dealer openly said consumers can go online and do all their research first before coming in to gain “all the dealership benefits and support”
-I loved the independent that spoke last in his stars and stripes
-also loved that Tesla rep basically said no more chargers if they don’t allow it.
Really hope SM comes up with an amazing way to run the process in SC if they don’t pass the bill and I truly hope in two years these things sell like hot cakes in SC and the other brands suffer some because of it.
Maybe SC Scout owners can spend Saturdays parked across the street from the dealerships with a bed sheet painted to say “talk to us about our Scouts-before you buy”.
Couldn’t SM fund a pair of employees in SC to open their own Scout/VW franchise. I ask seriously-how hard is it to start a car dealership? I don’t really know and I’m curious but some of the dealers that spoke didn’t seem like stellar business men. And for my own enjoyment use female employees-you know-for the cherry on top

Not a rant BTW-just some observations 😀

Whens the next hearing? Next time forum members from SC need to show up, along with Scott, and other Scout Motors employees and leaders.

And if it doesn’t go through its Supreme Court time.

Also how many people wrote to President Trump about this problem? Anyone?

Heres the address we need to flood with letters:

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Put it on the ballot!

I know this is about SC. But hopefully the easiest state to fight will probably be my medium crap sized state of NJ. Since we have the Department of Consumer Affairs. Which protect consumer rights.

Can only hope. If not you are welcome to cross the state line to my wonderful state and purchase/take delivery in our beautiful landlocked-ish state 😀

I am an 8th generation South Carolinian and I can confidently say there is a good chance SC will screw this up. We can’t move forward for always looking backwards. I hope I’m wrong!
I hope you are wrong too, but I have the same feeling.

Okay, so i rewatched the interview and hearing. From what I got out of the Interview of the representative for Lexington. It sound like its dead for now but they want to see the bill maybe reworked that would make more sense to pass the Consumer Freedom Act. So hope is still there.

@codythacker get back to work lol, Scout has this in the bag. I can feel it in my blood.

@codythacker did a great job today. So did the SC born former Tesla engineer that now works for Scout. I watched the video recording. Most of the dealers that spoke were just talking about how many years their families have had businesses in SC as dealerships. They are very fearful of the competition. That tells you something…

Rep. Chris Wooten is my representative. I contacted him for the third time tonight regarding this bill. He spoke of personal experience in the meeting today, but I reminded him to represent his people. Otherwise I’ll vote for someone else who willa.
