South Carolina Scouts! Your voice is heard: Direct sales bill gets a hearing on Wednesday!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

We’re making great progress in reforming the antiquated South Carolina laws that ban direct-to-consumer auto sales. Your outreach is working. On Wednesday, February 12, the Business and Commerce Subcommittee will hold the first hearing on the South Carolina Consumer Freedom Act.

To be clear, this can be a moment where the bill either lives or dies. The dealer lobby is working hard to kill it. Legislators who were vocal supporters only days ago are, after speaking with the dealer lobby, now wavering.

We can only counter this by showing up on Wednesday. Whether coming to the SC statehouse to show support, to speak in favor of the bill, or to see the circus, we would greatly appreciate any and all help that SC Scouts can offer.

The details are attached, but in brief, the hearing will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday in room 403 of the Blatt Building. Address is 1105 Pendleton St, Columbia, SC 29201. Crowds may be large, so you probably need to arrive 30 min early to get a seat.

The hearing rules aren’t exactly clear, but if you want to speak in support, there should be an opportunity to sign up before 9:00 when you enter the committee room.

Liberty can’t be stopped. We need to tackle oppression, protectionism, and cronyism wherever it exists. If citizens get involved, legislators will stop defending these anti-consumer laws.
I would hope the NJ legislature would do that but the saying “Trenton Makes The World Takes” is over. They don’t care about the consumer anymore, they hate small businesses, they are here for the payout of being governor.

Dang. That’s depressing.

I know Chris Wooten and he is my representative. I just emailed him again to please support the act in the meeting this week. I told him I don’t get any value from dealers so I want to be able to buy directly from automakers.

Living in Lexington, SC, I have also reached out directly to my local representatives to express my support for the Scout Motors direct to consumer GTM strategy. I also expressed my support for the Free Market to decide which business model succeeds, not the Auto Dealers lobbying groups. I strongly encourage everyone on within the Scout community that live here in South Carolina do the same. If we are successful in influencing a strike down of this archaic and consumer detriment law, then a momentum will begin and other states will likely follow suit.

The committee hearing starts now. I know dealers, lobbyists and NADA are there in force trying to manipulate our state laws. NADA says dealers "provide(s) tremendous value to automakers and consumers alike". This goes to show how out of touch they are with reality. But frankly, it is just words of self-preservation. I have also sent messages to my SC senator and representative as well as several on the committee who are involved with this proposal. Stay tuned!
