Payload and towing with harvester range extender on a Traveler

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I hope to be able to use a traveler with harvester range extender for towing a travel trailer. I have a 3500 lb trailer but with tongue weight of 700-800 lb. I currently have a 2024 Tundra which tows great but is too big as a daily driver.
I would really like an electric vehicle with 100-150 mile range which would cover all my daily driving. The range extender would allow better range towing than an all electric vehicle.
I think for me this concept is the sweet spot.
My main input would be to make sure the payload is still good with the range extender. There should be a lot of weight saved with the smaller battery, but the weight of gas and motor will add a fair bit. I am hoping it can stay close to the 2000 lb payload target.

Same. I want to be able to tow with my Traveler/Harvester. I have an 18' Featherlight with a smaller track car I tow with an SUV now. Probably 3200 lbs all in. If I could get a range of 250 to 275 miles with my Traveler/ Harvester rig towing that I'd be fairly happy.

We also would be looking to tow a 4,500 lb (loaded) travel trailer on our adventures. We don't stay in camp grounds with hookups though so the limiting factor for us with a full EV is how to charge while out in the sticks so the Harvester option is a must have. I wish the existing charging infrastructure was built with towing in mind...

I'd like to be able to tow about 7-8000lbs. I believe it should come with an integrated hitch as most aftermarket hitches won't be compatible until after release date
The Terra is projected at 10k and the Traveler at 7k tow capacities. Not following you on your comment about the hitch compatability.

Would it come with an integrated receiver mounted on the Vehicle?
OK, I thought maybe you had read something already about a weird/non-standard hitch plans. So it seems like the hitch option is TBD right now. Others here are speculating it will be an option at build time. It is now for a lot of trucks/SUV's already today so that seems likely. Would Scout choose something OTHER than a 2" receiver? I guess it is possible but there are plenty of option in the 2" range that would meet their towing capacities so it seems likely they will. I actually have a hitch that can work with either 2" or 2 1/2" but still hope it is 2".

Also another thing to be considered, my vehicle now even though it has the tow package does not have an integrated brake controller. I'm hoping given the 10,000 lb and 7,000 lb rating that an integrated brake controller is included if there's a tow package. Nothing is more annoying than having to add a third party brake controller under the dash that sticks out and in the way

Integrated would be ideal. I had to adda controller to my diesel Porsche Cayenne. I swear it had the shortest pigtail ever installed by a car manufacturer. LOL. Went with a hardwired Redarc controller. Worked out OK.

Would be awesome for them to come with an integrated trailer brake controller!

I can't imagine them mentioning "towing" as one of the first words on the Terra's webpage and not offer integrated brake controller and receiver (at least as factory options) in a such a modern truck, so I'll join the crew of people hoping that's the case!

I also saw air springs as an option, which I imagine will include auto-leveling when towing.

I want a real tow package, it has a 10,000 lbs rating so a 2" hitch, brake controller, trailer assist, camera integration, etc. Do do plan on towing my camper, hopefully at least some distance. But I have a farm. moving equipment, trailering tractors, hauling to and from town. electric with the harvester extender can be a real workhorse. especially bringing power into the field. let's not skimp onthis or make it 'non standard' Stick to IH/Farmall work ethic.

I would agree. If touting payload and towing capacities then I would like for it to come with the towing goodies...but on the flip side I don't want to jack up the price of the "Tow Package" to add on things like trailer assist and other fancy towing features.

solution: Solid State Battrey with significantly more range than current lfp batteries, good in cold weather, great for pulling with no loss of power on hills, no fires, fill to 80% in 15 minutes and available when scouts will be in production,
