Optional Third Row

We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. Wondering if a stow-able or removable third row seat is being considered?Maybe even a rear facing jump seat. The option for the additional seating capacity would be great, even if that third row is only suitable for children.
Words I heard at reveal is no third row. However, statement made the platform can handle a larger model. My hunch is a Travelall is in planning with third row
 
For the size of the vehicle, a sever seater will definitely bring in more customers...

I had the first thought too, but I think they goofed a bit when they released the length with the spare tier carrier, and width with the mirrors extended.

It is still pretty wide (79in wide without mirrors, the same as a Honda Odyssey), but the Traveler in particular is much shorter than it appeared on the dimension sheet at first. Instead of being ~208in long, its ~191in long.

Which means its shorter in length that the Toyota Highlander (~195in). And the Highlander (the regular/"non-grand" model) isn't exactly known for its spacious 3rd row (28in of rear legroom).

I think they did the right thing with the bench seat, as at least you get access to an honest-to-goodness 6 passenger in a pinch (remember, its almost the width of a normal fullsize truck at ~81in without mirrors, so only 2in narrower). But a third row might be a bit too tight, even for kids.

I wouldn't be surprised in the Travelall option to appear sometime in the future.
 
I would love to see a third row as well…but happy with a fully removable one instead of stow-able. If the Harvester range extender is going to be in the back, would be tough anyway from a space perspective.

Something like the removable Tahoe/Escalade seats would be great…if if there’s only enough room for smaller people.

The original IH Scout Traveler had a third row optional seat that folded into a bed. A “true to its roots” option could be for that third row.

I already made two reservations myself - but I know a 7 or 8(with front bench seat) seater would be amazing!

It DOT would approve a side fold down seat like the old Scouts that would be a great option. Even if you could get a ladder frame support mounted on sidewall and keep the seat in garage when not needed. Thats a great idea

I know the Lexus GX470, not that long ago, had side fold up and removable seats. So maybe a possibility.

Please make a 3rd row option! It’s the reason I can’t have a bronco or a wrangler. Definitely hopeful for the option.
I mentioned this before but our Honda Pilot is 10” longer than this and the third row is nearly useless even though we had hopes for it being a convenience on rare occasions. Taking 10” more out will cut storage significantly or make third row even tighter. It would feel like a 2+2 coupe when they shove a backseat in for insurance savings.
Third rows are convenient but knowing the length comparison I listed above and seeing the Scout in person I just can’t see it being worthwhile. I think people would order then be pissed off after getting the vehicle.
 
Maybe an unpopular opinion but count me out on the third row option. There are plenty of other vehicles out there for that. In my opinion, 1) third row seats are very rarely used and take up valuable cargo space, 2) third rows are usually only comfortable for very small humans, 3) when a third row is added, second row captains chairs are often configured to make access to the third row easier, making the net seating gain of the third row only +1 over a second row bench configuration, 4) International Harvester made a version of the Scout with this option back in the day and I don't think it was a big seller considering the more versatile two row version.

The 6 passenger benches will work for many. The Terra is over 3 ft longer than the Traveler, so a longer 3-row SUV could conceivably be built in the future if demand is there.

Thanks for the picture. All these years and I have never clued into the fact that captians chairs were a back seat option in the Scout II. I like that idea just for added comfort for the passengers in the back (speaking to the Scout II, not suggesting for Traveler).

I agree. For me, I would rather just have more storage above and below the floor. I also agree that a Travelall will likely be coming in the future. In the 2 years worth of discussions on this forum, Scout has been very open to most any idea or thought that made sense. A long time ago there was even some discussion of a return of the Metro. I would think the Vanlife crowd as well as vocational users would be interested in a 4x4 Scout Metro EV or Harvester. The body on frame platform is pretty easy to extend (and possibly shorten) while maintaining serious strength.
 
I will add my endorsement to an extended length Travelall model with a 3rd row. I love the design aesthetics for the Scout. I mainly use it for city life—in Houston, that means navigating street flooding from periodic downpours. The ability to ford up to 3 feet of water is very appealing.
 
Thinking about a potential Travelall design with three rows, I’d think the full size spare on the back gate would not be necessary to save a bit on overall length. Options could be more urbane on the Travelall—akin to the Sahara version of the Jeep Wrangler or Yukon Denali. The kind of car the Secret Service would drive. Fine for city life but able to navigate out of hairy situations in a pinch.
