Little things I find annoying with my current car (lights, wipers, A/C)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I don't think any of these are big enough for their own thread so I'm putting them all together. Just some things I would love to see taken into consideration -

Rear wiper - please give it a completely adjustable speed and make sure there is a significant difference between the slowest and fastest settings. In my current car I honestly cannot tell the difference between speed 1 and speed 2 and they are both too slow.

A/C vents - there is no position I can put the vents in that doesn't blow on my hands while I drive (assuming I have them in the "proper" driving positions), even if I try to close them. That starts to hurt after a while.

Headlights - please make the high beams come on when you pull the stick towards you and go to low beams by pushing it away. There is no time I need to be faster at making them brighter than at keeping them from blinding oncoming traffic. I've had cars that had the settings each way and it seemed much better to be able to go to low beams very quickly.

And something that I haven't found in any car but would like to see. Please make a way you can tell when your headlights and tail lights are on. The light setting dial doesn't really count. I have the lights set on auto on my car and have no way to tell if the car has decided it is dim enough to turn them on. I know there have been times when the wipers are on but the lights haven't come on. And I see so many other cars driving around with their parking lights on in the rain so they sort of have headlights on but still have no tail lights on and they probably don't know.

I can't wait to see it in October!!

Great suggestions. Agree with high beam stalk. Though I suspect auto high beams will be included.
I’ve never had an SUV with variable rear wiper speed. Always been one speed only or clean mode. Two speed would be great

Thanks! I have a Ford Flex currently and it has the two speeds. Before that I had a Volvo V90 station wagon and it had one of the infinitely adjustable settings for the rear wiper and at the high speed it was flying! It helped so much.

I hadn't thought about the auto high beams - my Flex is from 2010 so it didn't even occur to me. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed it makes it long enough to get the Scout as my next car)

I miss the headlight button on the floor. No matter what beam it was on pushing button with your foot changes it. A stalk could work the same. Instead of push pull it could be pull pull and is there any need to actually flash highs at someone? With halogens, high intensity discharge and bright white LEDs what are now surmised as brights coming towards us might just be their low beams.

Which makes me think since the lights will obviously be LED, why not have infinitely variable from low to high with a super high off road only mode. It could only be engaged when you select full off road driving mode with high speed limited. Of course with internal GPS the vehicle will know when it is on road or off road

Oooohhh, along the lines of wiper speed, having actual variable intermittent wipers instead of three speed intermittent wipers. Those are so annoying. One speed is too slow, the middle speed is OK, until the rain sensing thingamabob decides it's too slow and speeds up to the high speed intermittent setting. Then the high speed turns psycho because someone splashed water up on the windshield while you're driving and you go from fast to insanely fast and the sound of the wiper scraping the glass is akin to fingernails on a chalkboard and I'm driving. All of this is easily fixed with actual variable intermittent wipers with a dial that actually does something to change the speed.

Oh, and with the AC Vents, the ability to close them which is separate from the ability to adjust the direction of the flow. My Trailblazer has a dial to close the vents, I can move them back and forth, up and down, etc. My husband's Ranger is limited with the range of motion of the vents. So annoying! (And people wonder why I'm still driving a 2006 Trailblazer, well, Chevy did it right and it's still an amazing vehicle.)

My copilot is always closing her vents.

Poorly designed LED lights are a pet peeve of mine. Incandescent and HID are essentially point source lights - easy to design reflectors for. LED array apparently are not. Can not even guess the hundreds of times my wife has been flashed in her Jeep to dim her lights when they are already on dim - because of the stupid spill of the low beams. Her second Jeep was somewhat better - but none ever come close to my VW HID's (but those cost a mint to replace when broken - I think they are over $1200 each, and I have taken out 2).
