I know there has been some discussion about roof types, but for the concept panoramic sunroof is the thinking electrochromatic tinting where you can set it opaque or translucent, or a simple physical shade?

Love the concept and technology of this but I do t want to pay for it. Looked at a Toyota that offered it and option was over $2000 for the pano with electro.. super cool but priceyI know there has been some discussion about roof types, but for the concept panoramic sunroof is the thinking electrochromatic tinting where you can set it opaque or translucent, or a simple physical shade?
It is really cool, but it has one of the downside compared to a physical shade - it still lets a lot of light through. If you want a lot nice shady interior, you still need a physical shade.Love the concept and technology of this but I do t want to pay for it. That works too!A simple physical shade is more effective and cheaper.
I like this concept, and I would hope to see a panoramic sunroof as an option in the production model. If the sunroof had integrated PV glass capabilities to generate power/charge to a battery, that would be interesting as well.I know there has been some discussion about roof types, but for the concept panoramic sunroof is the thinking electrochromatic tinting where you can set it opaque or translucent, or a simple physical shade?

VW has this in the new ID Buzz, so I would not be surprised if this tech was available. As much as I love cool tech and features....I have to opt for this. Let's keep the cost down so we can see that reveal price point!A simple physical shade is more effective and cheaper.
@Jamie@ScoutMotors said they looked into the electro-chromatic roof extensively and deemed it too expensive. A good sliding shade is just fine. On a previous Grand Cherokee I had with the pano roof I installed reflective ceramic tint and it helped with the heat immensely. But, the thermal glass continues to get better and better. So, I am sure we will end up with a good option. Also, someone mentioned that the glass may break. Sure, it can but the glass used for vehicle rooves is structural and very strong. As much as I love cool tech and features....I have to opt for this. Yep. I'm perfectly happy with a sliding shade. I will still opt for just the basic steel roof though. I had a Tesla and here in the desert I had to have the shade up all the time so it really seemed pointless to even have the glass roof.@Jamie@ScoutMotors said they looked into the electro-chromatic roof extensively and deemed it too expensive. This! I don't need an electro-chromatic roof.. The sliding shade that was on the concept is perfect as is.@Jamie@ScoutMotors said they looked into the electro-chromatic roof extensively and deemed it too expensive. The other advantage of a slider is if you do a foil surface facing up it helps reflect the sun back and panel acts ‘a hair’ like an insulator to prevent heat gain through the glass. I’m sure the e-mag glass helps too but curious which helps more with reducing thermal gain in the vehicle? This! I don't need an electro-chromatic roof..
