The Road to Scout Production - All the latest updates in one place...

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Serious question are we making these like the old one? Is the steel rolls sitting out side getting a nice patina on them for fresh rust from factory? Ot are we waiting to buy the steel rolls to make it so they don't have the rust patina?

LOL.

No, we aren't planning on doing a "rust patina" version at this point. Early on we asked people for their top ten requests of things they would like to see on the new Scout, and "rust proofing" was one of the bigger requests. I own a 1979 Scout II and I'm fortunate that it had a rust coating applied and some proper TLC over the years by the previous owners.

Now, if you want to do a vehicle wrap for the new one that looks like patina and rust, that would actually be kinda funny.

Alright just making sure were not pay around 40k for a rust bucket.

Can we have a paint option for the patina look? Hand painted obviously for an extra amount of money for it.

I'm just trying to understand the manufacturing flow here. I assume painting is the last step, so why is it in the middle? An what specifically is done in the body shop vs assembly?

Painting is actually done early mid process if I recall from my BMW plant tour. Perhaps Jamie can spread more light on that but parts are assembled after painting

This new community hub follows the nomenclature of the other key Scout Motors facilities: the Production Center in Blythewood and the Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan.

Scout Motors opened its first South Carolina office in Columbia’s BullStreet District in November. The Columbia office will serve as the home base for Scout Motors’ growing South Carolina-based team while the company’s new Production Center undergoes construction in nearby Blythewood.

Scout Motors continues to ramp up local hiring in preparation for the launch of its manufacturing operations, with nearly 75 employees now on the ground in South Carolina. Current career opportunities are available on the Scout Motors careers page, where dozens of positions are available. Potential candidates can indicate their interest in future manufacturing positions by submitting their information at scoutmotors.sctechjobs.com.

Will the Terra and Traveler be on display at the connection center anytime soon? Will there be any reservation holder events planned outside the center's hours?

I threw my hat in the ring for one of these, as I have fond memories of an ol' Scout being used as a boat launch vehicle when we would head to a local lake. It would be nice to see one of these in person sooner than later, but I'm nowhere near SC. I actually live in central Indiana. Are there plans for a mobile "roadshow" to introduce these vehicles? I'm eager to see one of these in person!
