Payload and towing with harvester range extender on a Traveler

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I hope to be able to use a traveler with harvester range extender for towing a travel trailer. I have a 3500 lb trailer but with tongue weight of 700-800 lb. I currently have a 2024 Tundra which tows great but is too big as a daily driver.
I would really like an electric vehicle with 100-150 mile range which would cover all my daily driving. The range extender would allow better range towing than an all electric vehicle.
I think for me this concept is the sweet spot.
My main input would be to make sure the payload is still good with the range extender. There should be a lot of weight saved with the smaller battery, but the weight of gas and motor will add a fair bit. I am hoping it can stay close to the 2000 lb payload target.

Put me down as+1 for the integrated brake controller. I'd also like to see the Traveller top 7500 pounds towing which would make it a solid replacement for my diesel Grand Cherokee for towing the travel trailer.

I’d be interested in the Terra harvester towing capacity and range. I haul a 16ft steel horse trailer with up to 3 horses (1,200lbs each horse) up and down hills in Indiana and Kentucky and would hope the battery and Rex would be able and enough for at least a round trip of up to 400 miles.
Likley 275 at best towing you'd horses with Terra Harvester

Man, at first I didn't think I would trailer anything. Then I saw those off-roading trailers you can get that are made for the outdoors. Now Im thinking about it.

Unless they use something like a standard receiver hitch - using a load balancing hitch will be difficult. Without a load balancing hitch, tongue weight will limit most trailers rather than overall trailer weight.

Read up on a few other vehicles - they brag about how much they can tow, but then have a max tongue weight of 250lbs, or 400lbs. If 10% of the trailer weight should be carried on the tongue for safety. Not a huge problem if you can use a load balancing hitch to increase the tongue weight capacity - but if you have a specialty hitch, it gets difficult.

Now looking at google there is a difference between tongue weight limit and vertical weight limit. The Cybertruck has a great tongue weight capacity - but a vertical weight limit of 160lbs... I have used a wheel-less trailer basket on my truck to carry an ice chest - I think it will hold more ice than that...

I reserved a Terra Harvester for the express purpose of replacing my current Tow Rig for my Track Car (as well as being a DD). Really hoping it comes standard with a hitch receiver like every other pickup on the market today. A brake controller is standard on a lot of trucks these days too as is a trailer plug. Mentioned it in the Technology thread....but I think an automatic Tow Mode would be awesome. If you plug a trailer in at the back, it should realize this and automatically adjust the sensors, cameras, cooling, power curves, etc. My current truck screams at me every time I get in it with my trailer behind me until I turn off the rear radar.

I still think something that tells the Terra what it's towing would be helpful. Meaning it knows it's your boat and has learned what towing that boat does to your overall range. Math things are done via the computer machine thingy and wallah a more accurate range is displayed with more accurate required charging locations.

I could certainly see a case where you create a profile for a towing load and the computer learns as it goes. Save it as Boat or Travel Trailer or something and when it senses a trailer plugged in, it can bring up a list of existing profiles to be picked or allow the creation of a new one. I think that would be quite handy.

Though weather conditions could throw things off. Might have to get creative and have "Travel Trailer (Windy)", "Travel Trailer (Summer)", etc. Could get complicated in a hurry....but at least then you would limit the changes due to weather. But...maybe the computer could figure that out over time as well and damp out the oscillations in the profile changes (I'm an engineer, not a CS major).
