Option to delete the glass / cabana roof

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

The option to delete the fancy roof options and just have a regular hard top roof (and also save some money).

Full glass roofs are a liability off-road. There are tons of Rivian incidents with a cracked glass roof. Those things are expensive to replace.

With a camper shell, half of the roof is covered so a full glass roof is a bad investment. Same goes for the fancy cabana.

We need an option to just have a hard top roof. Simple as that!

Base model will be solid metal roof per Scout at the reveal event and on a handful of threads active right now

The TFL YouTube mentioned the Cabana is optional. For our purposes we'd pass on the Cabana. I'd be fine with a glass roof but please design in a shade for it. Our Ioniq 5 has a very well designed power shade.
I can't remember where I saw/heard it but I'm pretty sure the glass roof will have a powered shade.

Hopefully a standard metal roof will be available on more than just the base model. Give us a sunroof/cabana delete option on all trim levels. Though this starts to get into the BTO/BTS conversation being had elsewhere.

I’d assume steel will be base and other two will be upgrades. Add-.one make profit. Delete options generally cost money as you lose a bit of mark up that way but guess time will tell

I have to assume the same. Hopefully there's at least an off-road centric trim level that enables this as a choice while not excluding us from all of the uprated tech. i.e. Rubicon/Willys vs the Sahara

I hope the cabana is for sure optional because I find them to be completely impractical. More work than they are worth.

I want a removable hardtop. I want to be able to have a roof rack.

I also don’t want to roast in the California heat. Something of which currently do even when the sunroof shade is closed.

I like the idea both the cabana, and glass roofs.

But in practice, I've lived in places where sunroofs/moonroofs/glass roofs don't seem to work as well as you'd think. Both in places with excessive heat (Phoenix), and places where they seem to leak (currently in the PNW).

With the Cabana top I worry about increased road/wind noise, leaking, and mechanical failures.

With the glass top I worry about the sun (it needs to have a shade), road noise (less sound deadening), and being breakable.

All those, combined with the fact that I'm pretty sure that as is, the Scout is at the very north end of my budget... I'm pretty sure I'll be going with a plain old steel roof.

I agree that the cabana top looks great and would be a lot of fun off road. However, every fabric top I have run across does not stand up to wear and tear, sun, and wet conditions (mold) over time. Heck, I struggle to keep a grill cover looking decent for more than two seasons. So to be practical I will be spec'ing the glass or solid roof.

As a current Bronco owner (which I love) in Phoenix. I was convinced I needed an open air experience, I've taken the roof off maybe twice and the rattles, pops squeaks and various noises it makes drive me bonkers.

In town the 110 degree heat cooks you quick, and offroad I'm covered in dust.

Roof for me all the way

In 3 years, electrochromic glass roofs will be a common sight on cars. They're already on several VW vehicles actually. So I'd prefer that over a traditional shade for the glass roof option.

Is the assumption that the cabana roof is going to be made out of some kind of untreated canvas fit up with the wrong sized gaskets so maximum water can always pour into the cabin? Not getting why there’s such resistance to this.

That said, I’ve never had an issue with a moon roof or a sun roof leaking on me. 🤷‍♀️ Wouldn’t it be a warranty item?

I may or may not have heard that the company developing the cabana top also makes convertible tops for another high end brand owned by VW 😉

What would be really nice is instead of "bundling" options in packages we could select individual options we want when ordering. What is most infuriating to me is that when you go to price out a vehicle if you want tow mirrors, a sunroof, and heated seats you need a $9k "package" to get those three options and a boat load of other things you don't want. Makes vehicles unnecessarily expensive.

Scott Keogh said Scout wants them to be your vehicle, not their vehicle. Now, I do not know exactly level of personalization, but I do know they clear the community loud and clear!
