Terra - Roof Top Option

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

The glass roof top option looked amazing! Curious if anyone has seen or heard if the cabana top will also be an option on the Terra? That would be my choice if given the option.

I feel like I heard someone say that. I assume the roof hole is same size for glass or canvass so theoretically it should be viable? I thought the openings looked similar in size-what did you think @Harris005 ?

Agree on size, but don't know what is needed for the mechanics of the cabana?? The Traveler had more room behind the opening to potentially accommodate it. I do hope it can be an option in the Terra!

VW is REALLY GOOD with the split panoramic sunroofs. They are quiet, open and shut smoothly and, in my experience, NEVER LEAK. Having come from years of Land Rovers, which had decidedly undersized and leaky sunroofs, I'd love to see a VW Atlas / Touareg (my current ride) styled glass option. Must open!
I agree with you on the atlas roof being cool option for truck. However, if they can’t make it like the VW roof then in my opinion I would want it to be solid glass as in the prototype. I heard back glass comes down in back like normal doors. I used to love this option in the tundras that I owned. So I hope they keep it. I hope they can deliver on all items and in price range stated. I have the all electric option for my reservation.

One of the videos I watched of the reveal event stated that the Cabana top option was unlikely in the Terra. I’m assuming due to limited space for mechanicals. The prototype shows a solid glass roof, but I hope the production model has the option to open the glass.

Fixed big glass moonroof like that, is my favorite roof option. It creates all the feeling of openness, without anything to leak, or add wind noise, and no motors to fail. If you want more open air drop the windows and the rear window, and you will get all the air you want.

The only thing I would want to add is some kind of shade, even it meant you couldn't extend the glass as far back.

Here is the Ioniq 5 sunshade in action. But a simple manual slide would be ideal (again less to go wrong).

I had a Toyota Tundra where the back window rolled all the way down and with the sun roof open it was just having a convertible. I loved it and so did everyone else I spoke to that had that option. It would be a nice feature that I think Rivian does not offer.

If you read the threads you’ll see the rear window will go down and with the cabana option you will have exactly what you suggested

Great news thanks for the info. I have not spent much time reading all the threads but, I do hope you can get the roll down back window without having to get the Cabana roof. From what I just quickly read, there seems to be many other who dislike the Cabana roof. Why not just a regular sunroof with roll down back window - as I mentioned prior, it was like having a convertible. Interested in seeing how much you will be able to customize your vehicle without having to do it through a package where you get expensive options you don't need. I put a deposit on both truck and SUV - Once I see how I can customize, I will decide if I buy one of each. Can't wait. BTW, if anyone is reading this from Scout - I would be more than happy to demo either of the vehicles and give my input:)

Comments we’ve heard were the fixed and the cabana offers a much larger opening. Having seen them at the reveal I will concur-openings were huge. As for sunroof I think the general consensus I’m most people with sunroofs don’t open them anyway (not me) but it would need to be considerably smaller for the mechanicals, frame and hidden roof to open into so the thought was max the opening

I am sure whatever you come up with, taking all into consideration, you will nail it. I am already seeing the designer/customer thought process. How awesome.

Agree, I just want a Fixed big glass moonroof with electronic dimming. Although I love the simplicity approach it is ok to be in the 21st century too. Some tech like this would be ideal

Has there been any talks of a metal roof? The glass or the fabric is cool and all, call me old school but I'd much rather have a solid metal roof. If we gonna star gaze, I'll stop and get my family outside of the vehicle to do so.

There is a metal roof option. It's been posted in the forums before.

Yes, I have seen a regular metal roof option discussed multiple times on the forum. Maybe it will be the standard configuration.
