Magna to develop pickup and SUV for Scout Motors

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Just noticed this:

from the article:

Volkswagen has commissioned Magna to develop two electric models for its US brand Scout. Magna confirmed a corresponding report when asked by the Austrian news agency APA.”

Old news and Jamie verified this was speculation and not actual. Just an FYI. unless of course something just changed that we don’t know

Yes, some time ago, as I recall. This article from Austria was dated the 23rd, said they were originally talking about both magna design and manufacturing, now just design plus using at least some Audi parts instead of Magna parts. And it also says that Audi will be using the Scout platform later for some of their own cars. (“Audi, as the technology supplier for the project, will of course use the Scout platform for six months start later”).

This was also apparently confirmed by Magna-Styer themselves, the Magna subsidiary in Austria that will be doing the engineering.

So, my guess at this point is that it’s reasonably likely, but who knows? 🤷‍♂️

Interesting???

I could see Magna building the concepts as the new factory is not ready yet.

I hope it is for BUILDING ( not designing) concept only. There is very little I like about the g-wagon I find interesting. And g-wagon prices will tap me out of this purchase.

I think we’re safe on both points.

Magna is a fairly well know and entrenched outsourcing partner for everything from full builds to components. They do work for Mercedes, but they also do bodies for Rivian, Seats and power for BMW XM. Safe to say they seem to be able to bring designs to life. Let’s hope they can do it quickly!!

I’m guessing Scout will provide the concept design and any unique scout-platform parts, Audi will make available their parts bin and Magna will take those 4 things and create a production-ready design which Scout will build here in their new factory.

We can't comment on partners/suppliers we may or may not be working with. I will say that it is very common for automotive companies to utilize outside partners/suppliers for a variety of things.

As soon as we have something fun to talk about, we will share it with you all here. 2024 will be a big year for Scout Motors!

I feel there’s a wink, wink-nudge nudge there but I would never spread rumors 😂😂😂

I honestly don't care who designs the new Scout as long as it is an affordable, reasonably capable (don't need to do more than a Scout II) quality (reliable) vehicle that looks like a Scout, has a removable roof and doesn't rust. Magna seems like a company able to do that.

You can't take the 5th...

Good time for an update on this one...

In a more recent Automotive News interview, our CEO Scott Keogh mentioned that we are working with Magna (in addition to numerous other suppliers/partners). Automotive companies (particularly startups like Scout Motors) will often utilize outside engineering/suppliers/partners for various development help/work. This helps Scout get this project off the ground while we transition to our own internal teams. Our new office in Novi, Michigan, is where our design, product, and engineering teams are based. They have already moved into the space and we are onboarding new people every week.
