Driving Sounds

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I would like Scout to record engine sounds from different IH Scouts. It would be cool to have the option to pipe them through the speakers and disable them when not wanted.

They have done that as well as recording the original sounds of the turn signals, the sound the switches and knobs make, door handles, etc, etc. Not sure what they are going to use that info forget, but it is interesting that they did it.

If you don't own an EV, you might think they are silent, but they are hardly silent.... They are silent at slow speed only (therefore the regs on emitting pedestrian noises at low-speed).

Once you get over 20 in a truck there is wind and road / tire noise - just like an ICE truck - even a little perceived / subtle motor noise when winding up. The nice thing about the EV is that you can REPLACE the additional noise of an ICE engine with more "feel" for the truck and the way it is driving and behaving and interacting with the road. Personally, I would hate adding anything additional (in terms of noise) to replace an engine rumble within interior of the cabin. I would find that very odd! Just my 02.

I have been part of so many early EV discussions on this topic. Having owned over 20 EVs (Everything Tesla’s, Ford’s Rivian’s VW’s etc) My advice for Scout is please don’t spend time and money on this and make sure we can turn it off. This is literally noise, follow the signal instead

As long as I can turn the sound generator off then I dont mind having it. It should have multiple options/configurations AND shouldnt cost anything extra given that its just a bit of extra programing. I would also like some specific sound effects: The electric shaver sound of the original Buck Rogers (the Buster Crabbe version), a Cylon Raider, an X Wing, a Tie Fighter, Warp Drive, Impulse Drive. Oh, and you have to be able to hear the sound effect outside the vehicle. Other people should know what you are rockin'

no sound option would be also great.

Hate to break it to everyone, but the noise is a legal requirement (at least the exterior portion). I'd be very surprised if it is possible to turn it off.

Its been a law for a few years now. But basically any vehicle that can move under EV power (BEV, PHEV, EREV, Even normal hybrids), is required to make noise under a certain speed, and when backing up, to help prevent Pedestrian/vehicle collisions (ie, get people to look up from their phones, as you announce your presence with the noise, and hopefully no one gets hit).

Please do not offer fake driving sounds, or if you do, allow them to be completely disabled. I'll fill the cabin with music from a premium audio option anyway. If I'm off-road on difficult terrain, I'll have music off so I can hear the tires on the rock and listen for other vehicles. I don't need fake noise to make me feel like I'm driving something I'm not.

If anything, apply active noise canceling for tire drone and wind noise on road - tire drone and wind noise are proven fatigue inducers. As the Eagles sang, "Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy."
