Basic or All Decked Out?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I'm old school, but now the new Scout Traveler has me conflicted. Typically I would lean towards functionality with less bells and whistles. But the features on this bad boy are pretty cool. How about you? Do you want just a rough and rugged more-basic rig or do you want a luxury vehicle you can take over 12,000 foot passes?

I don't mind creature comforts, but some of them do sort of annoy me. I would mostly describe what I want as "easy to use, less things to break", but that doesn't mean I wouldn't appreciate something comfortable.

I actually hate power liftgates. They're slow, and I accidentally use more force on them (since I'm used to "hucking them closed" with one hand), and they're one more thing to add weight, or need to repair in the future. So in that way, I would much prefer manually opening liftgates/etc.

I've never had ventilated seats, and only recently got heated seats for the first time (still no heated steering wheel). But those are ones where if they didn't cost extra, I might be ok with, as functionally they seem to add real value.

Same thing... I'd love if there was lots of sound deadening, which I guess is luxury. I just know having done long trips on the highway in old vehicles (~74 CJ5 with no top, and a V8), its deafening. I much prefer being able to hear things if possible.

But that really gets back to my root cause here. As a chronic "less money than I'd want" sort of person, I'm a bit of a cheapskate. And ANY new vehicle is super pricey. As is, the base price after projected incentives is pretty steep for me already, so the decision will likely be out of my hands anyway.

I would like to think that I am a "Basic with Amenities" guy. But if I am being honest with myself, I know that I would be disappointed passing on a feature that would add to my owner, (and just as importantly, the co-owner's) driving and riding experience.

We hold on to cars for a while (about 6 to 10 years) so I don't mind adding a little to the purchase price with features that can be justified over time in terms of enjoyment.

Power windows, power locks, power steering and a pair of lockers is all I want. Running on battery power though, heated and ventilated seats would be good as they allow me to run less heat and AC, helping the range.

I started with a 1987 F150 which was stick. Loved that truck. When I traded it in I got 2006 Ram 2500 crew cab 2500 Laramie with 8 foot bed. It’s a beast all my friends made fun of me it had leather, heated seats and 8 foot bed. I still own this truck (got a super deal on it). I have no regrets it’s served me well and moving family and friends in winter months made me very popular. I moved to Florida 4 years ago. I order the Traveler but still wondering if I made the right decision. Temperature controlled cargo area is important.

You can always change it when you convert your order

I’m perfectly fine without most luxury stuff (except AC, power windows, and power locks). However, I do want all the off-roading goodies like off-roading suspension, a winch, and off-roading bumpers.

In high school, my '74 Scout II had one luxury amenity as far as I know - AC that worked great for two weeks at a time before the R12 leaked out of the compressor. I could never find the leak, so I bought R12 by the case from Walmart in the summers (apologies to the ozone layer). Maybe this electric Scout will help my environmental balance sheet a little. With all the bells and whistles.

I actually like what the Scout has to offer so far. It’s literally “The Perfect Car”. This is what I have been looking for, for a long time now.

Yeah. I hold vehicles for 20 years plus. But because of that my newest car is a 2006. That's what I'll replace. It doesn't have most of the features of the new cars these days. Power windows, power driver's seat, are about all of the options above the standard power steering, brakes and A/C. Even has a manual trans. But had limited slip differentials front and back. What I can't get my arms around is what will it be like driving a 15-year old car with all the fancy stuff. I guess it will be like my old cars but nicer. (*grin*)

Interesting point. Thanks.

I’d say I’m somewhere between basic w/niceties a luxury (if I can afford). Can you add another item
MID-LEVEL WITH NICETIES

Having had the opportunity to see it at reveal I just know I loved the Traveler AS-IS. So hoping that wasn’t the full blown luxury but if so then I want Luxury 🤣
Yeah. Same thing happened to me and I just saw it on the reveal presentation. I was not ready for when they drove them out of the garage! Reserved mine right then.

Depends on final price of the decked out model and/or the features on the bare bones one. TBD.
Yeah... I think you're right. I'm just so use to climbing over trails in very capable, basic rigs. I'm sure it will be better doing it in style, I just need to get my head around it. The new Scout will be more capable than all of the rigs I've enjoyed in the past, I have to convince myself that it doesn't have to be basic to be tough. I'll just have to twist my arm, buck up and get used to the good life! (*grin*)

I am definitely an all luxury, fully loaded, give me all the options that I can get but for a reasonable price but I also want athleticism and power too. Some people like super sporty vehicles that can zip and race all over town but sacrifice comfort. Some like luxurious floaty cars that are like driving a mattress down the road but sacrifice power and agility. Some people like rugged and boxy vehicles that are capable of climbing mountains and wadding in rivers but sacrifice both luxury and sporty agility and power. I will alway want a vehicle that combines it all: power, sportiness, athleticism or in this case, rugged and brawn abilities but also have refinement, luxury, high tech, practicality and comfort styling and amenities. Being able to combine all those things into one vehicle is what makes it the perfect vehicle in my opinion.
