VW, Audi dealers file suit in Florida to block Scout Motors’ direct sales to state consumers

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Y’know, I think it’s important for these chuckleheads to know that there’s some sort of unity among potential owners who really do not want to buy from dealers and why they want the option to buy from manufacturers directly. It is not my job to bankroll the legal bill of billionaires. It is not my job to further enrich already-rich men. These dealers make no friends of consumers when they do things like sue Scout Motors to block direct sales. Looking forward to them trying this shit in Massachusetts because I am ready to write my strongly-worded letter condemning this in the harshest terms possible (without dropping any F bombs, though I make no promises).

Why can’t dealerships understand that they don’t know how to sell EVs and that DTC is the way EVs sell. I’m sure Scout Legal Teams have a plan.

$250 doc fee is a bargain these days in MA. Many dealers are charging $500 - $700+ doc fees.

And they wonder why they have such a bad reputation and people don't like them!🤔

Does VW own more than 30 percent of Scout Motors?

Florida Law

"...According to Richard Sox, a lawyer representing the Florida dealers as well as California dealerrs in a separate lawsuit, noted Tesla and Rivian are unaffected they are not affiliated with an automaker with franchised dealers.

Florida’s Motor Vehicle Dealer Act blocks common entities from selling directly to consumers. According to the suit, an automaker like Volkswagen or one of its common entities “may not compete with its franchised dealer network by offering any brand of new motor vehicle for sale to Florida consumers other than through a licensed dealer.”

Under Florida law, if an automaker owns more than 30 percent of any brand or entity, it’s considered a “common entity.”..."

Agree, but they don't care what we think or what we want out of the buying process. All they care about is forcing consumers to buy from a dealer, so that they're guaranteed to be able to make money off us in some way, even if we hate them.

I wonder what kind of leverage VW has with dealers. Eg, if they can pick and choose which dealers get better pricing on their VWs and Audis. No idea how any of this works but if I was a dealer I don’t know that I’d take risks with my current cash cows. I might try to negotiate to get authorized for body work and accessory sales (which is the real money anyway).

SM in their early letter when California ADA threatened them that they would never do business with dealers who threaten them so I’m thinking there isn’t a single VW dealer that will get anything from SM. At least in SC.
