I would prefer a space saver spare in the frunk to make access to tow hitch much easier. Also allows for mounting a bike carrier. It looks like a full size spare could not fit in frunk.

Oh God no. Full sized spare or don't bother. These are off-road vehicles.I would prefer a space saver spare in the frunk to make access to tow hitch much easier. Also allows for mounting a bike carrier. It looks like a full size spare could not fit in frunk.
I find myself leaning towards the Terra and was bummed to hear the 35's won't fit underneath. I personally don't want a 35" tires taking up bed space or have to use a tire carrier for everyday driving. If a space saver could still be hidden underneath, I'd sign up for that. Then when hitting the trails the 35" full size spare could go in the bed, or throw on the tire carrier for the weekend.
Agreed on the full size spare. However, whether you like it or not, the majority of the SUV's are going to be mall-crawling, soccer shuttling, donut fetchers... IF scout has a wheel & tire choice that is less agressive / more urbane, then perhaps an "option" for a space saver makes sense... Then you can have your donut and it eat too.
I love having a full size spare in my truck hidden away under the bed. Of course when I finally need to use it, my bed will probably be loaded with firewood or something, but peace of mind is worth its weight in gold in some places.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone have a space saver spare with big offroad tires.
While it may theoretically be possible, to do that with the base tire size, IIRC, they mount that one under the rear of the truck, and don't use a spare tire carrier.
That seems like the best option. You don't have the carrier in the way, and you don't lose the frunk.
Though that may interfere with the Harvester...
I wonder if the lid/seat in the frunk was removed would a spare donut type tire fit upright-no radiator but imagine that space for a space saver tire. There is a bin under that cover so maybe size could work? Offering that kind of flexibility would be great so that owners had various optionsWe never saw what the under floor storage area looked like at the reveal. Maybe there is enough room under there. But, I’m sure that would only fit one of the smaller options.

My full sized spare is hidden in a compartment under the floor of the truck bed (not hanging under the bed), which is nice b/c it is not exposed to the elements, protects the tire and wheel and keeps the underside of the truck completely flat. The only down side is that if you happen to get a flat and have a bed that is loaded with gear, mulch or firewood (for example), you would ned to clear the bed to get to the spare. Given the trade-offs, and having dealt with tacomas, tundras and 4runners, I prefer having it in a compartment under the bed, based on my usageI really hate the spare under the bed, it’s a real pain accessing it off road when ya need it , let alone inspecting it to ensure it’s full of air and still serviceable/not damaged
This would be my preferred modus for spare storage. This is how the donut is stashed in my Prius and it’s pretty much ideal. It can still be accessed with junk on top of the panel (to a point). There’s secondary storage underneath the tire, too. Yeah, I’d definitely prefer something like this in the trunk for the spare instead of mounted on the back. People are jackals. One of my friends foiled a bike theft by use of Air Tag today and nothing says I couldn’t do that with the spare if I was really worried about it getting disappeared. My full sized spare is hidden in a compartment under the floor of the truck bed (not hanging under the bed), which is nice b/c it is not exposed to the elements, protects the tire and wheel and keeps the underside of the truck completely flat. The rear mounted spare is an option as announced by SM. If you go 35’s it may require rear mounted spare and I don’t see 37’s fitting under the vehicles for those that need giant rubbersI would like to see the rear-mounted spare as an option. Otherwise have a full size spare (donut) mounted under the storage area or under the car similar to my 4Runner. Honda will be offering a full sized wheel/tire kit with mounting hardware in the back hatch for their upcoming Pilot for those who will be off-roading. Rear mounted spares look cool but can be a pain with bike racks, parking, garage space, and day-to-day use IMHO.
Formally announced? Not still just a maybe for them to think about? The rear mounted spare is an option as announced by SM.
