So what if Volkswagen dealers win and stop direct sales?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Will you buy your reserved Scout at a Volkswagen dealership?

For me that is easy, I will NEVER again step foot into a dealership, especially not a Volkswagen as I pledged long ago that I will NEVER buy a Volkswagen.
I just hope the factory pickup stays alive otherwise I need to find another way....

I just read an article about this today on VW group trying to take this to court. made go on here to see what people are saying. I don't think it will happen either as they are a separate entity under VW AG. There is no way VW cars are competitors with the Scout.

Absolutely I'll buy in a VW or any other VAG dealership as I don't have the option for direct sales. My local VW dealer was good with my two TDIs, even during the Dieselgate buyback.

BMW did well using their existing dealerships when they launched MINI, and just partitioned off a small corner of the dealership for sales/service until they were up to speed and able to build full dealerships and service centers. I'd much prefer to see this model initially as it's more cost-effective until sales are up and running, and allows for more service centers initially. I agree with @Bodie on using a more premium dealership though as the service experience is typically much better.

To clarify, I don’t actually want to buy it from any of those dealerships. I’m firmly in the direct sales camp. My point was why would VW dealers assume it would be them IF it was sold though existing VWAG dealers. But yeah, of all those, VW would be my last choice.

I own a VW and would buy another from my dealer, but I refuse to pay marked-up pricing. VW has been gouging customers for years on Golf R's and will likely do it for the ID. Buzz.

I’ll take the factory delivery option. I hate all my adjacent VW and Audi dealerships. They also own Porsche dealerships to so I’ll assume that experience sucks too.
I think-if they do get forced to use dealers they make every company under the umbrella fight to the death to get it. Then make restrictions killer like it must be stand alone, must be a rural/suburban location, can’t have any other VW competitor dealership within 20 miles.
I’d put the screws to them to the point they wouldn’t want it. Then I’d force them to overload their “floorplan” with vehicles to force them to keep prices competitive.
I sound a bit vindictive because I despise dealerships
