Scout Warns VW Dealers Fighting Direct Sales That It’s Not Playing Around

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Scout Warns VW Dealers Fighting Direct Sales That It’s Not Playing Around

Like I said earlier.

This isn't California. It's dealers...

You can't blame a state for the actions of the dealers.

We are sure to see dealers act out in many other states, will you be attacking all the states because of that?

I bet you won't.
Odd that some refuse to understand this.

Also noteworthy that Scout corporate HQ is physically separate and distinct from VWGoA HQ - no doubt will become part of the legal narrative -

Scout Motors Inc.
1775 Tysons Boulevard
Tysons, VA 22102

vs.

Volkswagen Group of America
1950 Opportunity Way
Reston, VA 20190

To some degree I blame the states. The elected officials, at some point decided a business group supporting/funding their party was in better interest than looking out for free market and trade. California isn’t the only state antiquated so ultimately I feel a bit of early good intentions became muddled out of greed from continued _ADA financial “support”

IIRC, California is NOT one of the states that blocks companies from selling with dealerships either.

So again, I don't get how California is to blame.

I assume the "blame California" originated from this? The California New Car Dealership Association is the body most in the news on this front.

The next to last paragraph from there suggests state government strengthened the dealers' case. No idea whether that's an accurate assessment or not.
My “Blame California” comes from a lot of things.

One perfect example-
A brand new Ram TRX cannot be sold in California unless it has the immision sticker on the door specific to California. Mind you, it’s the exact same truck with or without that sticker. But because it’s California it gets its 50 state EPA sticker and costs more than the same truck without it.

I could go on, but it might be deemed political, and honestly I don’t come here to argue. I’m just here to enjoy the forum and escape from the world for a few minutes. I can turn on the news and find something to piss me off if I want.

Really not sure which thread to post in on this topic.....but...I wonder what VW Group has to say about all this? I feel like they could put an end to this very quickly with a letter that states "Scout Motors is not part of VW Group." Assuming that Scout is in the right here, VW's getting a black eye because their dealer network is being petulant. Seems like they'd want to stop this foolishness before it went too far. Unless of course, VW Group and Scout don't see things the same way....and VW Group actually does think SM is under their umbrella. I know VW Group did invest in Scout....but investment doesn't mean ownership.

Anyway....hope VW Group comes out and says something to stop the madness before the lawyers have to step foot in a courtroom.

I know you just joined. Did you happen to read the letter above at start of thread? It pretty much says this. There is also a thread called something like SC freedom act-posted by another SM staff member that provides some insight to your point. These would be good if you’re into the legal battle ensuing. General consensus on the forum is dealers can suck it (putting it mildly😀). If you search recent posts it may be quick to find as the threads are fairly recent. Enjoy!

All I can think of when I see this, is this.

And I will not apologize for that :D.

So there you go dealers.
