Removable Doors

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I’m looking for a 50 something mid-life-crisis-mobile so I can throw caution to the wind. :ROFLMAO:
You just nailed the buyer demographic with that comment. I started an age group poll sometime ago but should start promoting it again as I really am curious which age(s) group will be largest demographic. I do think 50’s it gonna be the majority.
Experienced them as children and have the means to afford. Money and nostalgia-the perfect tools for successful sales 🤣

Turned out that cynical Generation X could be easily bought all along. Make a Garbage Pail Kids special edition, be in the black for years.

I think there will be follow on models that include many of the open air things people have on their wish list. I never took the top off of my Scout II. Too big and heavy and no where to store it.
That would be cool, I hope they consider it!
I hear ya. The top for my K5 was quite heavy when removing. All of the newer Jeep and Bronco tops have been like a feather in comparison when removing so removable tops are definitely different animals these days with 40 to 50 years of improvements.

I think my dad took the top off once and never again. I remember that he would talk about it a lot, but it never happened. 😅 My favorite thing were the triangle-shaped side windows that pushed out, anyhow. Having windows that got pushed open seemed pretty great. Why hasn’t anyone latched onto that fond memory and made it the hill that they plan to die on? Have the triangle windows have been waiting for me to remember them?

Don’t worry, they already made it to the suggestion list 😁👍🏻

I'm guessing that multiple large external door hinges aren't doing much to reduce the drag coefficient (on things like jeeps for example).
There also seem to be a LOT of issues with hinges for removable doors, or for the doors themselves (once they start coming on or off). Not saying it wouldn't be cool to have a doorless (and topless) mid-life crisis, but trade-offs...

I don't see anyone hating on them. Just people pointing out that only a tiny niche of buyers care about taking doors off.

I mean, I hate on them 🙋. They have their niche and times they would be nice, but it’s not something I’ll ever do.

I’m almost the complete opposite. I don’t want removable doors on the Traveler. If anything, I want sturdy, solid doors that give that delectable, German “thunk” when they close. Nothing flimsy, tinny, or loose.

I don't think removable doors have to be flimsy. You don't need external hinges like the Wrangler. That's just an affectation. Those external hinges end up getting chipped and leading to corrosion, so definitely NOT a fan of those. But Bronco has removable doors and keeps hinges inside.

I don't care either way, unless they make the doors worse to ease removal, then I would be against them.

The off-road community kind of just does what they want. Those that want to remove their doors are going to remove their doors.

Yes. All doors are removable. It's just a question of how much time and how many tools are required. You can mod them to make them more removable:

In my 20s I would spend the winter in Florida with the doors off and was thankful in the summer to put them back on; even if they did not seal well enough to keep the AC in.

In my 40s now and in my Gladiator I would never bother/risk running without doors on. Paint is too hard to match. Too much disrespect for fellow citizens abound now. The new doors actually have wires in them and probably more safety steel. I leave things in the car that can be replaced but I dont want the hassle or expense. I have just gotten older....

Now on my "vintage" LJ jeep, oh yeah drivers side door comes off all the time. Passenger side, not so much, my wifey is not a daredevil.

Would I like removable doors on my Scout, sure. Would I pay extra for removable doors....nope...

I used to race spec e30, BMW 325s from the 80s and 90s. It was literally two nuts on each door and the doors on that fine german automobile would pop right off. Once removed the nuts would be tossed and lost; raced for years and never had a door come loose. Mind you we stripped the doors of wiring and glass as part of the rule set so that made them lighter and less complicated to remove.

I drove my e30 Super Eta this morning!

Too late for the Terra and Traveler to get removable doors but I hope a future model will have both removable doors and roof. Jeep sales are struggling bad and that segment is ripe for Scout to convert some owners.

I couldn’t agree more, Jeep currently has a ton of issues/mismanagement and there is definitely an opportunity window to swipe some market share. Makes me very sad as a long-term Jeep fan, but it’s true.

Jeep got all excited about their increasing sales, and ratcheted up the pricing for their models across the board. If you'd have told me 10 years ago that we'd have $100k+ Jeeps for sale, and Wranglers over $90k, I'd have called you crazy.

But here we are.

And now that interest rates are up, and the economy is down, people are voting with their wallet/feet, and Jeeps sales are really struggling.

I do feel that Scout has the chance to make some serious dents in the market share of Jeep/Rivian though.

Absolutely! I couldn’t agree more. Well said.
