Removable Doors

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
What if to compete with Wranglers there was an option for removable doors? I would definitely get behind this
Most states make it illegal, add that with the number of people of takes doors off and it's a small market.

The reveal vehicles have side mirrors attached to the doors. Removing the doors would therefore remove the mirrors.

I believe some states allow doors to be removed but not the side mirrors.

The fact that the mirrors attach to the doors, indicates to me that Scout are not planning removable doors.

The mirrors are mounted on Wrangler doors as well. There are plenty of after market add-on mirrors to put on if required when the doors are off. Although I've been in quite a few states and have never been pulled over for having my doors and side mirrors off. Usually the requirement is one mirror and the one on the windshield covers the requirement...

The Traveler doesn't quite strike me as the sort of vehicle that would be best with removeable doors.

I think for the Traveler/Terra as we see them now, they're expecting the cabana roof, and rolling down the windows to count as your "open air" experience. Personally I think that will come in a future smaller/more offroady model comes out.

My father had a wrangler when I was a teenager, and while we were excited about the option to remove the doors, we really didn't ever do it, even while wheeling. We had the half doors on there with the removeable soft uppers, and that worked really well, as the half doors were very low.

Around here we have two main seasons. Biting insect (Blackfly/Mosquito/deerfly) Season and Winter, so the desire to take off doors in the woods and either freeze, or be an involuntary blood donor isn't that big here.

Rolling down Windows is plenty for the few warm days without insects. :D

Doors off, Top down, cruising the beach is the way to go!
Can always simply have after market mirrors that mount to the A pillar or body. Even if the design of the vehicle allows for an ease of removal of the doors would be appreciated with a quick disconnect for any electrical.
Those that want to keep it on it will look as you want it to.
Options are always nice!

Mounting the mirrors of the A-pillar for Ford was a huge feat! Competition is good! I expected jeep to follow suit but hasn't happened yet.

Everyone will hate on removable doors, but I absolutely love them. There’s absolutely nothing like it. Most people don’t give it a chance. To me it’s a priceless feature. I love every part of the experience (depending on current weather it’s not for the soft though) and would love Scout to offer it in one way or another. If we’re not going to get a removable top option then at least give us the doors for some open-air freedom.

If nothing else, I’d love Scout Motors to offer it in order to give Jeep some more competition because they really need another kick in the butt right now.

It’s a great idea as a lifestyle feature but guessing less than 3% of Jeepers ever take doors off. Lot of expensive parts and engineering to make something for the 3%. Save that for the future smaller SUV where target market lies.
While we had the Bronco -just less than 1-1/2 years we had soft top. Only 1 time did I drop the entire roof. If you have it as a non-daily driver and can garage it that’s great but as a daily, one time of that work and hassle was plenty. Rest of time owning we flipped back the front panel and dropped the windows and that was more than enough open air.

I don't see anyone hating on them. Just people pointing out that only a tiny niche of buyers care about taking doors off.
I get it. I’m just disappointed. Doesn’t mean I don’t understand the business argument, I just wish reality were different. I’ve had several vehicles through the years where the doors and/or top were removable and I utilized those unique features in all of them. They have been far and away the most engaging and fun vehicles I have owned, earning my loyalty and enthusiasm. It’s just disappointing that others don’t enjoy it or take advantage in the same way. When I said hating, I suppose what I really meant was “not wanting”, “not caring”, “not trying”, or all of the above. :)

I mean, all things considered, they’re removable if someone hits them at a fast enough speed…

And they *could* be removable: it would just be a huge pain in the ass and probably look janky. I’m sure someone would be delighted to do that mod (make the door more easily removed/replaced) for the right price. Never too late to pick up a new hobby, either, if you wanted to give it a try? This probably sounds incredibly optimistic, but crazier things have been done.

Definitely. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I won’t take them off unless they’ve been designed to do so though.

Seems like the engineering for doors-off capability with the new Bronco isn’t too far outside of standard. Jeep is a different story. Seems as if it wouldn’t be hard for Scout Motors to do since they’re starting from the ground-up, but my impression has always been that they do not have any intention on having an open-air focus for their vehicles other than the optional Cabana top.

Couldn't agree more, I like the idea of removing the roof and doors and allowing the hair flow in the wind on a 80 degree days, truth is, I never did. The roof is too heavy for the center section, the doors are a pain to remove and quite frankly I'm too conservative in my aging years to risk being in an accident. I use to be fun at parties, not much anymore!

Good point. Made me also realize that the at this price point I don’t think the demographic is gonna be 20-something’s that are young and “dumb” and will actively risk their safety for the fun of an open run

I'd love removable doors with SSII style inserts and maybe soft doors an aftermarket option.
